Viva macau airlines

Hi everyone,

Got a cheap $480 tix to Macau in May 09 with Viva Macau... anyone been on this airline.. any feedback, tips, suggestions, thanks.

I have never flown them, but I have a friend who has and he said it certainly wasnt the best airline he has ever flown on, but its not the worst either. It resembled something along the lines of tiger, but he said the staff were very friendly and helpful. There was no inflight entertainment which made the flight horribly long when you cant sleep.

I remember reading other post about viva on this forum somewhere, and it had more details. Maybe do a search for it.

I've flown them three times and each flight has been extremely cheap, has departed promptly and gotten me there on time. Would recommend them, but only if significantly cheaper than other carriers to Hong Kong or Guangzhou. Efficent check in, friendly cabin crew, but food is poor like most budget carriers and don't count on anthing being available I suggest you bring some of your own.

Thanks everyone for your responses. I gathered it wouldn't be top quality service, but happy to compromise given paid $480 return including taxes from Sydney.

Thanks again everyone.. might take up the tip of bringing my own food! And ipod given no inflight entertainment.

Their fleet is quite old also.

Their "fleet" consists of two planes, one 767-200 and another 767-200ER,
The one for the MFM<=>SYD will be the 767-200ER, rego B-MAV,
is ex-aero mexico and was built in the 1990, so 19 years of age,
similar to the age of the QF 767 fleet.

Some points to note:

0. They have a very strict baggage overweight policy, with huge overlimit charges, for both checked and carry-on bags and they will check and enforce. They consider luggage over-weight charge as one of their revenue stream.
1. For SYD=>MFM, consider bringing your own food/drink/entertainment.
2. For MFM=>SYD, it gets tricky, first you have to get your passport checked by their service desk (on the opposite side,not at the check in desks), then your luggage needed to be scanned, then you can proceed to the check in desk as usual. Your carry on luggage will be checked before entering the departure area (as usual), however before you got on the plane, they will check your carry on again to make sure you did not carry any liquids so you have to buy from them during the flight. In other words, you can't take any liquids which you have bought in the departure area (except under 100mls)
