Virgin to HKG & TPA Or QF ?

Hi apreciate some advise/help/thoughts. I have to go to China ( through Honkers) and Taiwan in August. Usually travel QF and Cathy across to Taipei. I am thinking about doing the SYD to HKG through VA as it will help me requalify for Gold, then across to Taipei with Cathy.

What if anything will I lose out on ,

I presume I earn VA SC with Virgin Atlantic?
I presume I earn QF SC with Cathy as a OWE airline ?
i presume I am able to acess a lounge at SYD and HKG on departures with V Atlantic as a VA Gold?
i presume I can access Cathy lounges and priority as a QF WP & OW equivalent?

As I will be transferring (think) directly from inbound flight to a TPE bound flight at HKG would bagge be easier with a QF-Cathy connection tha. VA - Cathy connection?

Will be flying PE (or Y+ is it? )

Yes to all your questions - check the VFF and QFF pages to work out the number of SC earned.

If both options are on one ticket then baggage should be seamless at HKG, if not then QF-CX would be better as no need to re-check bags.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I do believe that CX has an interline agreement with VA and you might be able to check the bags right through...

If you were really going to TPA the answers are wrong.1 letter difference makes the world of difference in airport codes.TPA=Tampa,FL.
