Hey all,

I'd like to book a return flight from Sydney to LAX with Virgin as a surprise proposal gift for my partner. (Getting the best "class" I can afford, which I really hope is business!)

What's the best way for me to do this without spoiling the surprise, and with the least amount of risk. (Saying no, dates wrong, and so on.)

And, what is a good price for a business return trip from SYD to LAX with Virgin? I've never booked any premium flights so I have no idea how much they should cost.

And the reason for Virgin is that I flew with them recently and they were great.

Thank you so much!

aren't you setting the bar too high? you know you're will have to out do yourself for the rest of your life right.

Book ticket after she says yes.

Does historical prices really matter? When you have to go, you have to go. Will you put the trip off if it's cheaper in 4 months time?

The safest way is to do as Pu Koh suggests and book the flights AFTER she says yes and you know exactly when you want to travel? Unless of course, the trip is planners for right after you pop the question - in which case you'll be up for a packet!!

You can create your own dummy Virgin boarding passes to give to her when you pop the question. I'm doing this for my mums 50th next year and they look legit (just scanned real ones and changed a few details, names etc). Really adds to the effect. Then if she says no you haven't done your dough :p

Oh and I have no idea about cost sorry... I'd suggest a sale could have them as low as 4500 return perhaps? With stiff change/cancellation conditions. But I mainly fly QF so am just guessing really

Closer to $6500 each return. Premium Economy on sale is $3500 return (which is always 'on sale' pretty much).

I would say about 6-7k return, their PE is pretty good and half the price.

You have probably thought of this but make sure her passport has validity required and you have ESTA documentation sorted (which you will require her passport details to do).

Good luck!
