The four 'complimentary upgrades' available each year to Velocity Platinum members can now be used on international flights, excluding Los Angeles and Abu Dhabi (which leaves New Zealand, Indonesia, Fiji and other near-Pacific destinations on the map). VA Platinums can now also request same-day upgrades on domestic flights at the lounge.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Holy cough!

Is there a link to read the T&Cs as Ive got some planning for the next, next, next, next... next trip!

Since you asked for links, more info at New business class upgrade perks for Virgin Australia Platinum frequent flyers while VA's Velocity Platinum perks page now reflects that

"Platinum members are entitled to four complimentary fare upgrades per year from a Flexi fare (fare classes Y, B, H, K, L) to a Business Class seat on Domestic or International Short Haul flights marketed and operated by Virgin Australia."

My mistake (original article is correct, I just slipped a key detail in my OP summary): the shiny newness for Platinums is that their at-lounge upgrade request can now be made at any time throughout the day, rather than two hours before departure (that tighter time limit remains in place for Gold, Silver and Red card-hoders), which means that Platinum members stand a better chance at getting first dibs on award seats for that flight.

That's good news but it's still better to get the upgrade on the A330 transcon flights.

Read this with interest this morning on your website David. Is it subject to reward seat availability?

Or weekend flights to NAN on the A330

I have no need to travel to PER and this was the best option in using my upgrades, but now the A330 is flying MEL-NAN I'm considering a trip just for the sake of it. I have no need to travel to Fiji either but any excuse to visit there is good enough for me.

Also the Flex fare to NAN is only $40 more expensive than PER. Not sure how they can justify the $1800 price for J on weekends to PER on the 738

Many thanks to DavidFlynn for the update. This is indeed the first good VA news story for some time. Please VA, let there be more to keep us keen!
