I had a very straight forward experience with the KF call centre last night. Nothing on the horizon for us to do locally over Easter and we don't want to spend 7 hours getting to Singapore for just 2 days of R&R.

I logged onto my Velocity account and checked for J award availability BNE-MEL-BNE. Various flights throughout the day for out and back but no where near enough points with Velocity.

Called up the KF centre, Option 3 for Partner Redemptions. They were able to see slightly different availability from what I could see but we found two very acceptable flights. Of course, I had to confirm with Mrs Albatross and the agent issued a booking and giving me three days to finalise payment.

Called up this morning, S$20 per sector in taxes so 2 pax @ 2 sectors, S$80 + 84,000 miles.

Not the most cost effective use of the miles but Mrs Albatross will get to enjoy her Easter.

So, with 7 days notice we are headed for Easter on the Great Ocean Road.

PS: Hire cars look like a bit of a premium. If anyone has an active and good Avis code it would be great to get a PM.

Great news - thanks for sharing. I wonder if they have improved the process or just how things panned out? When I tried using Krisflyer miles for a VA redemption, it was like pulling teeth! And the taxes were about S$120 each! Hopefully more stories like yours ahead - Happy Easter in advance!

Yep, that's why I posted the story as I was expecting a slower process as well. It was all very easy.

I did try getting a redemption BNE-HBA or BNE-LST which required a transit via SYD or MEL. This extra complication didn't return any availability for our Easter travel dates. So instead of Tasmania Bucket List item, we are ticking Great Ocean Road item.

As always with redemption travel have options and alternatives.
