Virgin Australia reps!

Qantas has Qantas Christmas deals | gift vouchers | experiences on offer at the moment

10x bonus Qantas FF points when buying gift vouchers

Would be nice if you could match/better this offer, I am prepared to move about $5000 of domestic travel over the next few months back to Qantas simply to earn 50,000 points and probably more for the next 12 months of travel.

I am sure many others on here and elsewhere would be thinking the same thing!

That is all

All silent from the Virgin Rep I see!

That's fine, I'll be Platinum soon on VA care of several Air NZ flights in J, I will obtain a pro-rata refund of my previously purchased Virgin lounge pass of about $200, and I will purchase about $7500 of Qantas gift gards netting me 75,000+ Velocity points and spend the next 12 months flying Qantas.

That is a good idea by Qantas, who knew they still had it in them :p

10x bonus points, that's pretty good, plus the extra points you will earn on the flights and if you credit card also gives you good earn rate, you'll clock up 100k easily.

If VA came up with an offer like this, i'd jump on it straight away since I have several flights to EU/USA next year and would love to earn 10x bonus points by simply purchasing travel vouchers.

QF doing Velocity points now, cool.

Lol i just noticed the typo too, ahhh dont be like that lol lovestotravel was obviously too excited at the prospect of netting 75k points, he didnt see that he was typing velocity lol

btw lovestotravel, the T&C for the voucher use, is ONLY one person per travel, max value $500. So that foils any plans of mine to use $3,000 in vouchers to buy one airfare. lol

Indeed and I was in RANT mode... I would much rather Velocity points but from what I can see they are not going to match the offer... If they have not done it by now I doubt they will.

Thansk, but I will be flying MEL-SYD-MEL and MEL-CBR-MEL twice weekly for a few months so $50 vouchers cover most of the cost and I'll have some $100 for the "Peak Hour" fares.

So one voucher per ticket, per flight is fine!

Given DJ credit based on points per $ paid, matching QF would result in some significant point hauls!

not to mention you gave them ONE day to reply..... a bit unrealistic wouldn't you say??

Nope - This is social media, and replies should be fast!

The VA rep replied/started another thread but didn't reply to this one, which is not a good way to go about social media.

Now I will say I received a PM from the VA rep about this offer, and let's say that VA have not matched the deal.

As a result I am currently purchasing $7500 in Qantas vouchers for travel next year for myself, and also about to purchase a Qantas Club 2 year pass for another 40,000 points.

A spend of around $8700 will net me 115000 Qantas FF points

While I will be platinum on Virgin, and Gold on Qantas, 115,000 points is too good to pass up!

Um I think it's a bit harsh to criticise them for not instantly implementing a whole new offer and marketing campaign just to suit you...

As for a reply, they are under no obligation to make any comment - they may not have seen the thread. Managing Twitter, Facebook, AFF and so on is a lot of work and at this time of year it might only be one person doing it. I don't read every thread in the Velocity forum.and they might not either.

Additionally these things take weeks to months to develop and implement. There are systems changes and testing required, they need to do cost-benefit analysis, develop the marketing and advertising program and so on. They might have already looked at it and determined the cost isn't worth it.

Let's be honest, VA have done a lot more to improve their customer experience this year than QF have, so I think QF are trying to do whatever they can to improve their image. I wouldn't normally expect an offer like this from QF - it's got to be costing them a fair bit.

It's more the lack of reply in here that's a fail

If they want to be active in social media you don't avoid the harder subjects or not reply

As for Virgin "trying hard" yes they do "try hard" but fail with on-board menus, lack of IFE and lots of small things

I think it's hilarious that a totally unrelated Qantas promo is somehow one of the "harder subjects" that VA are refusing to deal with." Get a grip. There is absolutely no reason whatsoever why they should treat replying to this kind of pure speculation as a priority. What is there even to reply to? Qantas are having a promo, so what has that got to with VA?

Seriously, i'm with
pshepvic. If VA want to reply to stuff like this they're welcome to but i'd hope to god they have something better to do.

The demand that virgin match the qantas promo also misses a couple of important points. Firstly that the virgin social media team are on holiday. Secondly that virgin does not need to match qantas. The pricing and sale situation suggest that virgin is not having trouble filling seats where as qantas probably is having problems. So why release a promo clearly designed to lock customers in when you can fill seats.

Completely agree with what the two of you are saying, I don't expect Virgin to match every deal Qantas do, they are their own company. Just as Qantas don't match every offer that Virgin put out.

Why limit yourself to one airfare? With $3,000 in vouchers you can book.... well.... let's just say you can book ~34 one-way or return flights and earn ~39,000 QFF points in the process. ;)

The gift voucher promo for Velocity is probably more lucrative than QF anyway, so no great loss!
