Hi

I would very much like to go to Vietnam but only have a short window frame of about 9 days over next year Easter period, leaving on 18th April and returning 26th or 27th April.

I would like to do this as a JASA if possible but checking the classic awards there does not seem a lot available on the dates I want on line, do you think if I called the premium line they would release 2 seats as we are both platinum, if not we could also travel in Y but again dates seem a bit scarce.

Do any of you have any info on Vietnam too and what we should do over this number of days ?

If not I need to look for another destination and have never been to Thailand so that might be an option.

Thanks in advance

Whereabouts in Vietnam is your destination choice? It is such a diverse country. What are your interests?

Sorry should have mentioned that I dont think I would have enough time to travel to Hanoi and then get down to Ho Chi Minh for return journey...so if I concentrated in landing in Ho Chi Minh and departing from there and say had a full 7 days, would look to see some historic sites (not tunnels though - bit claustrophobic) and if maybe could get up the coast a little bit to see a different part of the country. Perhaps a by doing some now and going back again at a later date would be good. It s just that Easter next year is a good break if you take the middle three days leave and coincides with Anzac Day so a good break.

Vietnam traffic is bad if travel on country roads. can take 5 hours just to Halong Bays from Hanoi. You must allow to lose 1 day when you arrive in Hanoi and nearly 1 day when you leaving. Many interesting thing in Hanoi and difficult to spend time in other places as will if you holiday is only 7 days which is now 5 day if you take off travel times. If you research google internet you will find most recommendations for short term stay is only north or south.

If you use search on this forum there is trip reporting from afFers on Vietnam holidays and vacations and business

Re: Vietnam Questions

You like everyone else will be trying to get a holiday then, hence why few seats available! I have already locked in some J award seats over that period. If you are wanting to use Qantas to Vietam you will have to go through SIN and connect to JQ. If flying economy I would do the following.

18th day flight to Hanoi, stay night in Hanoi
19th Hanoi
20th Hanoi
21st bus down to Halong bay for 2 nights
22nd Halong Bay
23rd Halong Bay bus back to Hanoi and get on the overnight sleeper train in first class sleepers to Sapa
24th Sapa
25th Sapa
26th Hanoi
27th Day flight back to Aus

good variety, mountains, water, city. Plenty of time and not rushed at all.

The latest Lonely Planet Vietnam have a 7 day itinerary suggestion which we've loosely incorporated into our trip. Base yourself in Hanoi for a day then head to Halong Bay for a day trip before flying to Hue the next morning. From there you can head to Hoi Ann, Danang and back to HCMC. Danang seems to be the party spot so keep that in mind if coughtails by the beach is your thing.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Lonely Planet drink much whiskey - no ways is you do hanoi to halong bays day trips! Takes many hours to get there and back with no time to see anything like night market shops and restaurants or cruise wich you would need a speeding boat to see bay very much.

Very bad information!:)
