Vietnam Airlines fares from $200+taxes etc return MEL - SGN

Looks like Vietnam Airlines has a major sale happening. Haven't looked at all the details but cheap economy return fares from Syd ($300) and Mel ($200) to Vietnam and Cambodia (not including taxes, fees and charges), purchase until March 2016 (probably safer to assume sale will end at some stage rather than as this implies, open ended). Also advertising cheap fares from Aust to Europe and from Vietnam around SE Asia.

Dunno... seems like a bit of a dud to me?

By the time you add taxes, the cheapes round-trip is $858 or so. Which doesn't seem overly 'cheap' for Viet Nam?

I thought advertising fares without tax wasn't allowed anyway?? (edited to add... it's the overseas site, so guess it's fine!)

worth noting, different categories of economy fare are not necessarily combinable... so you can't match a 'super deal' with 'special deal'.

'super deal' fares are $200 each way, but if you take a 'special deal' for the outbound from Au for $250 (rather than $200), you can take the 'special deal' back for just $100 (rather than $200). Saves $50.

Wow, didn't expect the charges to be that much. Looked like the charges were around $60 each way. That's pretty much the standard fare then, which is still ok. Just not as good as Vietnam Airlines is making out.

I did a dummy booking from the link to get the final price of ~$850 odd.

Seems the website is the overseas one... not the AU specific one... hence why they are quoting prices excl taxes.

The AU site automatically includes them.

What's VN Y like these days? Might have to go to SGN next week and currently getting around $800 ow...

I did SIN/HAN/DAD/SGN/SIN all in Y over the last two weeks and it was no different to VA/QF, although I was over the weight limits (8 kgs) for my bags for two people and never got charged once.

I've done a bit of Y flying with VN - can't complain, I thought it was pretty good. Just below QF/SQ standard, I'd say.
