Hi, have been searching on the virgin site and other sites but cant seem to find any info. I have a gold membership with virgin and am flying with Hawaiian airlines and wanted to know what the benefits where.
Would i get priority check-in, priority boarding, extra luggage?

From what I understand - basically nothing. You get lounge access in the Air NZ lounge when flying on the codeshare flight departing Sydney and VA baggage limits apply for the codeshare flight (it looks like these only apply when you buy the ticket from VA). Hawaiian don't appear to recognise your status on any other part of their network.

Unless you are travelling in F, J, HA Premier Club member or are a Pualani Gold or Plat member expect to have to use the airport self service kiosks for international checkin HNL/SYD or HNL/BNE which is done at the HA Terminal/InterIsland terminal not the main terminal where other international carriers checkin.

Anybody will get a checked baggage allowance of 2 pieces per person even with no status.

To the best of my knowledge you don't get any more luggage or lounge access being VA Gold but happy to be corrected on that one.

There are 3 Priority Pass Lounges at HNL Airport if you're a member.

I'm doing a VA booked HA ran business class trip BNE-SYD-HNL-SYD-BNE (should be platinum by the time I'm back :) ) trip for 13 days late august... so I'll be interested to hear your experiences...

ozbeachbabe - sounds like you've been a few times, are any of the priority pass lounges in hnl any good?

Also seems like the Air NZ lounge shuts at 8pm, my flights at 9:20...

Any tips and points for hawaii would be great as well

I found the lounge info when signed into the Velocity frequent flyer site under the 'status' tab then selecting 'Global Lounge Access' from the drop down menu. It looks like in BNE or SYD you & a guest can use the NZ Koru Lounge if you have a same day departure on HA. Ex HNL you & a guest can use the DL Sky Club for a saame day departure on HA to BNE or SYD.

We went to the JAL Sakura Lounge/AA Admirals Club which is one of the HNL PP Lounges which was okay but bugger all on offer to eat like soup, mini choc chip cookies & rice crackers. At the time I remember thinking I would kill for some Neil Perry party pies.

The United Lounge is another which we didn't see on this occasion as we chose the above one as it was 'closer' to our HA gate. Might use that one next time. It does say "Members who holder a PP Select membership or PP holders in the US who receive their member ship through a US financial institution will not be allowed to access this lounge".

The link below is for the PP directory of lounges wordwide & HNL is featured on page 88.

There's also one called the IASS Lounge but I lost interest immediately after I read "complimentary soft drinks are limited to one per person".

sounds like the delta skylounge might be the win... and if that ends up being rubbish I might move to the united lounge with pp - lucky it's an Australian financial institution :p ( lets see how that goes shall I?)

air nz looks ok in sydney, shame it shuts early, but it's not hard to burn an hour in a sydney international pub

1 soft drink per person? Wow. I know the VA lounge glasses (and the cans in the upstairs section of the SYD lounge) are small enough as it is without a very small limit in the lounge in question.

I just wanted to point out that the above is for the IASS Lounge in HNL which is a Priority Pass Lounge so no affiliation with VA.

The real test will be what's on offer in DL's Sky Club as a VA Gold ff flying on HA.

I can only go from my experience in VA's lounge's domestically & the VX lounge at LAX.

I'll be VA gold by the time I arrive in the US in January so I'll be keen to find out about DL & VX lounges.

I was never a lounge guy until a long layover in LAX this year.

Regardless, 1 one soft drink per person soft drink limit for a place you can spend hours is ssooo wrong!

Will you have your actual VA newly minted gold card with you when you go to use the partnet lounges in LAX?

A lot of lounges need to swipe the card on entry in order to bill the charge for your visit back to the airline ie VA in your case.

I hope so! I should make gold after my SYD - MEL - DRW - MEL - SYD trip in August. I'm leaving for the US on January 1.

I always carry my card on me but I haven't been asked to show it yet.
