Anyone have any recent experience?

I am heading BNE to HNL return in November and after any current info on lounge access or perks.

There was very limited business class availability on the way over which is the night flight and more then likely will book the Y reward. Even though it was longer then I was intending to stay I took the J reward to come back.

TIA.

Out of interest - how did you find reward availability? Through Virgin, or through Hawaiian? I looked on Virgin site and couldn't find a reward ticket for any time in the next year!

I rang Virgin for availability.....Hawaiian has, I believe been very very hard to get J seat rewards but then again when I got the wedding invite I looked and even with AA, QANTAS it was very difficult to get any J for Hawaii in November. It looks a little better with Y going out there is multiple seats on the day before I want to go but nothing on the day.

I would normally keep the points and just take the Jetstar sale that is currently on for the SC to maintain status but this will be my third OS trip in 12mths and I am trying to keep the cost down.

My wife & I recently travelled on HA using redemption miles from VS (not VA).

Having previously flown in business class, I would strongly recommend not using FF miles for business class, it's just not worth it. This trip we redeemed two economy class seats and then rang HA & for $A100 per person per flight each we got economy confort seats. We were seated in 11A & 11B, the row immediately behind business class. I would say we ended up with more leg room than what was offered in business class. We received free movies, blankets & pillow.

For our flight over, as a Platinum member we ate at the Air NZ lounge before boarding and once on aboard, managed to get some sleep. For our return flight, before leaving our hotel we purchased from a nearby ABC store snacks to take on board the flight (HA charges for inflight snacks) including some freshly made wraps. HA's inflight meal offerings are exactly the greatest but the snacks that we took on board more than compensated.

Next time we go to HNL we'll do exaclty the same thing.

I forgot to mention in my previous post that as a VA Platinum member we were able to enjoy the benefits of the new Delta Lounge located at Gate 13. In fact we had purposely forgone breakfast the morning we left our hotel and had a reasonable breakfast in the lounge (cereals, bagels, muffins etc). The lounge is a fair walk from when you exit security and the HA flights depart from gate 26. So rather than walk all the way back and then onto gate 26, we took the escalator that's just a few metres from the lounge up to level 3 and took the shuttle which runs 15 minutes.

If you're not a VA Platinum or Gold member then HNL Is one of those airports where Priority Pass membership pays off as it will get you into the United Airlines lounge just a bit further along from Gate 13.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Thanks - out of interest how many VS miles were needed? I'm sitting on about 200,000
