Hi all,

Apologies if this is a dumb question or something already asked - I couldn't seem to find the answer or get my head around it.

I currently have no velocity status (just red). However, we are heading to Japan next year and Europe the year after and wanting to aim for gold status for Europe. I have family looking for my husband and 2 kids and have booked flights on Singapore Air to Nagoya (so 4 flight sectors for me) next year on Virgin website, which also will earn me in total 480 status credits.

My question is - do I have to go first to Silver and then to gold, ie ultimately needing 6 sectors and 750 status credits (2, 250 for silver then 4, 500 for gold)? Or will those that credited towards my silver still go towards gold?

I am asking as if they count, I will ensure we make a domestic trip before our Japan trip, thus achieving gold status on the way to Japan so we have it on the way back. Then the way back can count towards maintaining gold for the year to follow, meaning I then only need 2 sectors and 160 status credits to maintain it rather than 4 and 400.

Hope this makes sense and I greatly appreciate any assistance!

that should be family pooling not looking... good old auto correct

Okay, so assuming that the SQ flights were booked as the VA code?

Your family pooling does not get you their sectors. You need to fly 4 sectors with VA flight numbers.

As for the question you asked, it's 4 sectors and 500SC when starting from 0. The SCs you earn for silver count towards gold.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Thank you for your reply, and yes booked as a VA code. My understanding was each flight is a separate sector or have I misinterpreted that? So MEL-SIN, SIN-NGO, NGO-SIN, SIN-MEL would be 4 sectors. Or do I only count one flight sector from MEL-NGO?

Thats 4 sectors that VA will recognize towards your status.

You will also need a total of 500 SCs earned in 12mths, you can go from Red to Gold if family pooling SCs to you, which is what happened to my husband on his first USA trip. I was pooling my SCs to him and he had VA bookings.

Good luck

thus achieving gold status on the way to Japan so we have it on the way back.

Sometimes VFF take a little while to add the Status Credits and also for change of Membership tier. I'm not sure how long it is between your trip to Japan and then your return but if it is less than say a week or two, it may be pro-active to ring VFF and get them to fast track the SC and then your membership level.

You can always take the family on small holidays, within Aust, for maybe $99 (per person) if you are flying within the triangles of ADL/MEL/SYD, yes, the prices can go up, ...
That is the only way to get the flight sectors.
If you want to forward plan, buy your family groceries and petrol for the car from Coles group of companies, putting in your FB# in all of these transactions, ...
Join FB (Flybuys) if you haven't, 1 FB SC equals a $100 purchase of groceries, can be more, when they decide to issue more.
I just ot the 10 SC a few days ago, as a thank you for being "helpful" in getting VFF to be 10 million'th membership.
If flying domestically, go into the class called Elevate, which earns more SC, than Getaway, this Elevate fare class earns more FB SC than Getaway.
480 SC, all up via family pooling, into the main person's VFF account, can be SG, if you add on the SC from FB into the mix.
Edit: VFF also gave a rolling system of considering status accumulation, whereas QFF us fixed 12 months.
So the faster you get the SC with VFF the better.
Hopefully though the Europe trip is not too far off from the Japan trip.
If you are VFF SG, hubby can be partner, and kids can be dependants for lounge access.
Goss on here that the basic SQ KF lounge (non business lounge) at SIN isnt too flash.
SQ J lounge in SIN is nice, was in there in the Ansett days.
