So I'm currently sitting on 880 SC and have a flight coming up in a few days which will earn 120 SC but my partner is on the same flight and is pooling her 120 SC to me. I'm wondering if anyone knows whether those 120 SC will be gone forever or whether they will count towards me retaining platinum. If they will be wasted then we will stop the pooling.

Thanks in advance!

Your elevation to Platinum will occur as a result of attaining the 1000 SC. The pooled SC will not count towards anything other than a quest to reach Companion Status within your new review period. Other than that, they will sit there for 12 months and then - be gone forever.

Congrats on the Plat status though :)

Congrats on the Plat status though :)

I managed to get companion Plat for my wife. A couple of extra business class upgrades, but the main benefit was symbolic. It was “thank you for your support during my days away from home”. In my view, it is a worthwhile thing to shoot for.

Ok thanks for clearing that up guys. I think I know what we have to do now :)

We've been sort of tag teaming the pooling up until now and are both currently gold. Not sure if that works out better than going down the companion status route or not... Probably works out the same but just with more hassle involved haha!

I think we morph from one pooling arrangement to the other at least 5 times a year. It may be a hassle, but it keeps those precious points and status credits flowing to where they can do the most good.

Mere mortals may see this as a monumental waste of time. But we at AFF see it as a valuable investment. And one that is only realized when you are sipping that pre-departure beverage in your J class suite.....PAID FOR IN POINTS!
