My Son (who is a Uni Student and does not have much money) wants to impress his Girlfriend with 2 nights’ accommodation in Brisbane Friday 14 to Sunday 16 February.

A search revealed not much availability and or specials (Hilton, Accor etc.) due to Valentine’s Day, So…

I said to him I’II ask the experts - Any suggestions?

:arrow:The Emporium is always good .... Valentines day/weekend packages still on sale - Good places to eat close by 'James St etc.' Night life in the Valley ...... short cab ride to CBD ......... easy access to Airport ..... Travellers' Choice™ 2014 Winner on Tripadvisor .....consistently good reviews ..... we always put our out of town clients there and they have all, to date, given it the double thumbs up - good coughtail bar ...yada yada .......... cost factory ...to the how much he wants to impress factor ...could be the hard balance Base room which are still very good ,go for about 320 per night - not bad for inner Brisbane of late ......lot of reasonable priced dinning options around.

What are Limes rates like? Funky rooms and rooftop bar could impress.

not sure if they still do it but if they like to gamble they used to sell rooms at midnight on a first turn up first served basis on cheap rates.

What's the budget for your son? Are you going to subsidise him a bit for this effort? :)

Looking at the rates on booking.com alone, I'm actually surprised prices haven't got out of hand yet. They aren't say really cheap, but given that it is so close to the date, these are actually good rates. Needless to say, if there are romance packages available (which I can't see on booking.com, you would have to go to other websites / the hotel's native websites), they'll be in high demand. Staff will be setting up many rooms on the 14th!

In response to Solid and Clivem, the Limes and Emporium hotels are amongst the most expensive on those two days. An alternative to the Limes is the Diamant, which is not as stylish looking but still quite understated and still more sophisticated than a standard mid-range hotel. The best room at the Diamant is going at a decent daily rate, about $230 per night. The Emporium appears to have a nice Valentines package in a spa suite for around $479 for a night - probably get one night with that package and another night at another rate.

In the CBD, the Pullman King George Square looks pretty good and the rate decent enough. This was looking at lastminute.com.au, and there appears to be a couple of other good ones.

The Hilton still has standard room awards as well as cash + points awards available. However, without status it may be a bland stay, though; e.g. no Executive lounge access, no complimentary breakfast, no free internet in the room......

We're staying at the Pullman, was under $200 and I've only heard good things.

The Sofitel is surprisingly cheap that weekend and well located, and I have a feeling it's the third hotel on the Wot hotel list offering a room for $204 then $190, the parking rates and facilities match up.

Otherwise The Point might be a nice alternative, being just up the road from the free ferry and the Storey Bridge Hotel.

Only $150 per night and no subsidy from me (this time). He's already tried me out with a request to book a room in my name (Hilton - Gold or Accor - Plat).

There is a four and a half star wot hotel which is an apartment for that sort of $$$, located in the city I would go for that, being an apartment some meals can be cooked in house saving $$$$

Not all apartments in the city have cooking facilities.

They do when they are listed on Wotif as having them.

Apologies for going off-Topic but that is not how it reads.
