Hey hey,

Am travelling to Maldives on Virgin/Etihad in November and will take me up to 175 SC's for this year, I should already be on Silver but stupidly changed my FF number to singapore one when I went to london in July... Was on discount economy so didn't get many points + missed out on like 150 SC's ! Anyway moving forward..

Once I get back I will have 75SC's to get to silver and wondering if you guys/girls think it is worth it to a status run for silver? I plan to go to sydney in December, so can get some that way, but wish to know some potential cheeky ways of getting some bonus SC's by going via MEL or something..?? Would it be worth it also? Also have to book a flight to hamilton island for January so can get some more there...

Also with the VA discount promo codes could make them a little bit cheaper??

Basically:
- VA status run/s for 75 SC's
- Have a return trip yet to book to sydney in early DEC
- Have a one way trip to HTI yet to book in January

Can I do it without spending lots and would it actually be worth it just for silver?

Thanks!
Brown891.

By all means use codes to make fares cheaper but I wouldn't spend extra to get VA silver. A bit of extra luggage and a couple of lounge passes is not worth much IMO.

I did a bit of a status run to get to VA Silver this year. (Was only ~30 status credits short and just directed a few flights to VA that would have gone to QF otherwise.) Honestly, I don't think Silver has really been worth it and I wouldn't go out of my way for it.

You get a few things - the 2x lounge passes are the main things of value - but even they can be bought for $65 each.

I'm in a similiar boat, I have Oneworld Sapphire from personal travel but annoyingly my work uses Virgin with travel just under once a month so I'm close to VA silver... I could probably get there if I diverted a couple of personal flights over from QF. The main thing I'd be tempted with is the annual lounge pass at $300 instead of $750

Don't forget that you can now earn up to 10 Velocity status credits per month by shopping at Coles.

Thank you everyone! I'll have a think about whether I pursue silver or not. Cheers

If you just have the Maldives trip planned, silver won't give much. The lounge passes can't be used (unless you do a domestic connection) and the lounge is not worth the value of the SC run sectors to gain 75SCs. Put the money toward the holiday. If however you do fly VA domestically during the year, the reduced lounge membership fee may be worthwhile, depending upon how often you fly and how much food and beveridge you consume at the airport.

Keep a look out in your emails, you might get the double SC offer with the FB's . That might just make it worthwhile.

How much will that 75SC cost you? Might be cheaper just to buy a lounge membership $750 and get entry for a year not just two passes.

Gold is probably worth it, silver, not really. IMO

Not cheap, but the way to get VA PS is to fly (Air) NZ with a VA flight number, ie, book on the VA website Au to NZ in premY or discJ.
I have gotten VA PS for 2 years running, by flying (A) NZ Au to AKL several times.
Eg, if you fly from a non SYD/MEL/BNE capital city to either of the 3 and then across to NZ in discJ, you could earn 100, come back in premY earns 45, and 5/10 back to your home town if now SYD/MEL/BNE.
Fly AKL - PER and get the chance to try Skycouch in whY.
