Hi guys,

I am wondering if anyone can help m in regards to using Velocity points for Singapore Air. I tried calling Velocity but was on the phone for 15 minutes without a resolution. They didn't know squat...

Basically, I am wanting to fly Brisbane to New York. My wife and I have Krisflyer points so she is going to use hers for a business flight, and I will use the Velocity points. But when booking online, they don't have any Singapore air flights show up. I couldn't book anything Bris-NY, and could only book Etihad for Bris-Singapore.

Is this possible to book Singapore Air using Velocity points to do this trip? If so, how?

Thanks in advance!

Mickey, you're going to have to help me out here, I have no idea what you're saying! I'm new to this FF stuff.

I think what he is saying is that Virgin codeshare with Etihad on BNE-SIN rather than SQ, whilst on SYD-SIN they codeshare with SQ (EY not on this route). So only possible to book ex SYD to get onto a Singapore Airlines flight as part of this reward booking.

Hi Book your flights from Sydney as Virgin Australia code share with Singapore Airlines from Sydney. Plus you get to fly on the A380.

If you need any more just ask.

Interesting, when I was on the phone to VElocity, the guy said it was possible to go Brisbane to Singapore, on SQ. Basically he said I could do it, but I had to go Bris-Sing, then Sing-NY which would cost a lot more in points.

Also, just tried booking from Sydney to Singapore, and no flights come up. I tried just about every date in Feb 2013.

I have been looking at going BNE-DUB using points, and for the last little while the long haul booking engine, especially for flights next year, is broken as anything. Have to find a date that lets you in, says it will cost you an incredibly high number of points (its picking up the Any Seat fare), but when you go there the reward cost shows properly. Really weird.

The online engine is hopeless for long haul at the moment. Call in and they will see more than you can. For SQ I would be expecting a BNE-SIN-NYC routing, ie: separate flights so costing more. Might be possible for you to use Krisflyer and Velocity to use NZ instead.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Well I finally got through to someone who knew what they were talking about. Velocity wants 370,000 points to go from Bris to NY business class, whilst Krisflyer only need 107500 points. Which is weird?

From Bris to Sing using Krisflyer you only need 60,000 points, yet using Velocity points for Etihad it costs 57000 points. So obviously Etihad have a better deal with Velocity than SQ....

I tried to get SQ flights SIN-ADL or SIN-BNE in C, but Velocity can only see Y. Yet looking on Singapore & United there are C saver awards available for the dates I want. The situation with EY seems to be the same as well. Looking with KVS, I can see C availability, but there is none showing on Velocity. Looks to me like their alliances are useless in comparison to a REAL alliance.
