Firstly welcome aboard Sandn24. Now let's see if we can help.

If you're flying Qantas you need to be on a fare that is upgradable. Not all fares are, generally the cheaper the fare the less likely it is able to be upgraded. But, go to manage my booking (MMB) on the Qantas page and scroll down to see if it offers the option to upgrade. If so click the offer and follow the process.

But, for Qantas do remember that you won't be advised until probably 24 hours prior to the flight or even up to the gate.

Basically be prepared to fly the class you've booked in.

This year we had 3 staff members fly MEL-LAX-MEL so we booked them in Premium Economy and applied for points upgrades and all 3 got them each way. The way we figured this was to jump over all those who booked in economy regardless of their status and if it had not worked PE would be acceptable.

Good deal Cove. I often do the same if possible. It makes the best 'value' deal. If I need to go J or F then I always book that class however. Golden rule be prepared to fly in the cabin you paid for.
