Hey

Booked a reward seat BNE to LAX in econ for end of Jan, paid for the same for my wife. I have heard that at times you can buy a cheap upgrade to perm econ or J class at check in. Does Virgin offer this on int long haul flights?

Also as a Plat Velocity member, would I be more likely to get a free upgrade?

Cheers
Steve

The short answer to the questions are nope and probably nope. Sorry.

But if the back of the bus is exceptionally full, you might find yourself bumped, that is of course if there are no club members in Y as well.

I haven't tried with Virgin, but it certainly works with partner airlines. I upgraded from J to F on Etihad on a Melbourne to Abi Dhabi leg for $500. An absolute bargain.

I've never seen VA offer a 'cheap' upgrade at checkin. As per any airline, expect to fly in the cabin you've booked in and you won't be disappointed. Anything else is just a bonus.

EY though, yes. I've heard many examples of it from multiple ports.
