Hi, I'm currently Velocity Red, flying MEL-LAX on 25th Dec (Xmas Day)

I'm a bit confused by the current Virgin Australia upgrade process, what's the best option/strategy for me to get an upgrade to Premium or Business using points or $ ?

I have around 120k pts

Thanks

Hi ecorock, welcome to the forum.

There's some good news. And some bad news.

First, the bad news - you can't upgrade to a higher cabin class with points when you're a Red member. You must be a Gold or Platinum tier to use points for the LAX route. Or, you can pay to upgrade, but that's an expensive option.

The good new is - you'll get TWO Christmas Days this year. And around 3700 points per leg in your stocking.

Merry Christmas :D

Thank you for explaining :)

I used to be Gold... sadly :(

Are you able to place an UpgradeMe premium bid? I'm not sure whether these are always available on flights to LAX, but it should appear as an option in "manage booking" if so.

Yarp, but often the (best odds) bid price for a long haul bid equates to the difference between your original fare and the desired cabin price. And not even a guarantee you'll get the winning bid. If I wanted the better seat bad enough - I'd cut out the middleman and just ring to secure it with cash.
