Upcoming trip to LHR via SYD

Hi guys,

Been a little while since I posted on here I think, but I have been lurking at least once a week!

I have an upcoming trip to see some relatives in England/Wales, but I have a couple of questions regarding the Qantas Club membership guest rules that I am hoping someone can clear it up here. I did a search, but this is a litttle specific.

I will get the Qantas Club membership through here. I am not a member right now though. My questions are:

1) How long does it usually take to get the membership pack from the date that you apply through AFF?

2) I am travelling with my girlfriend on all legs. All stopovers have at least a night at the location so we exit the terminal. I presume my girlfriend will be able to come in with me at all times?

3) any recommendations on a new suitcase? My current one is too close to carking it. I am after a large sized suitcase but not huge. Weight isn't a major factor as long as with the extra weight comes strength. Budget is debatable but not too high as I don't fly huge amounts. Preferably around or under the $250-300 mark if it is just one!



I realise particularly the second question is likely an obvious question, but I just like to be sure! I read the T&C's too many times so now it is all gibberish. My main concern is Qantas won't like me taking her in so frequently (4 times in a fortnight) - but the more I think about this logically, this shouldn't really be a big issue?

I can imagine the look I'll get if she can't go in! (and imagine the realisation that I will have to stay out too... )

Q1, Not sure as AFF have to process your QC membership. Generally I would say 2 weeks.

Q2. No probs as long as she is on the same flights with you won't be a problem.

Q3. I don't use an expensive bag mainly because I use many different sizes depending on what I need to take. Some members on the forum fully support Samsonite and the quality is awesome and some members have had many years out of them.

As far as the bags go, Samsonite are good. My large one finally carked it after about 15 years due to the wheels coming apart.

I replaced it with a Delsey, as they have the double-zip which is also high security (some cheap zips you can split open with a pen), and it's light.
We'll see how it goes though.

Bagworld (online) have pretty good prices on Samsonite, or The Luggage Store (also www). Luggage Professionals say they will beat any price by 5%, but they don't have the range, I found.

Myer genrally have some of their range at 40% off (or other deals like Buy One Get One Free) and the deals vary every few weeks. They had 40% off the Delseys, but didn't have the ones we wanted and we ended up buying them from Bag Scene (Hornsby) for 50% off. Win.

Yep you are. BA9/10 and QF23/24 for the BKK-LHR-BKK and SYD-BKK-SYD legs respectively so there shouldn't be any issue with, at the very least, myself getting into the lounge.

I'm glad you brought up zippers. I have had a number of suitcases where the zipper handles have snapped off or that I can't lock the zippers. I forgot about it until now.

I may go have a look at Myers then since I have a while. I could probably get something at EOFY sales if I want to push it time wise. I don't particularly like ordering things like this online since I can't see the detail, but I'll look at the Delsey. Thanks!
