Hi Guys.
I booked a business flight to London in April at a good virgin Atlantic sale. Going via HK.

So I'm a nervous flyer but talking to a mate he got me worried about a few things
Typhoon season in HK
Flying a A330 he goes that's the Air France one...great cheers.
Then oh yeah Virgin is like really small so he started on about them not as good a Qantas pilots.

Really Meade me feel great. So now he's got me worried about all these things.

Have flown OS a few times on premium or business sales.

Last thing from Berlin to Rome Easyjet OK or a top tier airline.

Thanks so much

Get a new mate.

Sounds like you may be a nervous flyer so stop listening to your so called mates. They are just scaring you. No real concerns about any of those things

Yeah been my pal for over 30 years and flown way more than me.

Been reading about A330 planes...will be hoping they are now good to go.

Anybody done Easyjet... I'm expecting basically Jetstar.

Then you won't be disappointed. Probably a little more basic even than Jetstar but if the price and route is right then it will be fine

I’ve done a bit of Easyjet flying and it’s absolutely fine. I actually prefer it to Jetstar. Just make sure you check-in online and expect to pay extra if you want anything.

The worst part of your Easyjet experience will probably be the airport in Berlin.

Statistically speaking, an A330 is extremely safe aircraft

Thanks for the replies. Yeah always a nervous flyer.

Did fly VA last year from San Fran to London premium. Was the A340 flight was fine but premium was ordinary.

Trying to rationalise that Virgin Australia fly to HK maybe everyday or so so they must be OK. And VA go from HK to London...just would have preferred 4 engines.

But looks like 2 engines is the way of the future

2 vs 4 engines isn't going to make much of a difference... it's not normally the engines causing the issue.

If you're sticking to major airlines (VA and VS are included in that), and flying large aircraft, you can rest easy assured that the best and most senior pilots generally get to fly on the biggest planes. You don't normally hand a very big and expensive jet to an inexperienced crew.

Welcome to AFF!

Typhoon season isn't a big deal, just means that one could happen, not that one will (we flew though it last year with zero effect).

A330s are extremely safe. The AF incident was caused by user (and I mean user as the man was clearly not a pilot) error.

Enjoy your trip. It'll be great :):)

Flying into HK in typhoon season is no big deal! I have done 40 or so return trips to HK from SYD. If a really bad typhoon occurs you will just get a free night in Manilla!

If that were to happen then does VA continue to London from there ior do they go back to HK. Just wondering as it throws your plans out maybe.

If a flight is diverted it will almost always end up going to its original destination. A diversion to Manila for example would be to wait the few hours until the typhoon passed and the airport re-opens. Too many logistics issues to divert a plane and then fly onwards from there... passengers, crew, catering, freight.. for both the incoming and outgoing flights are all orgainsed based on the original origin.

OK thanks for that makes a lot of sense the way you explained it

Cant answer your question if Virgin Atlantic is a premium airline like Emirates or Qantas but I think its a decent airline. Look I can relate as I am a nervous traveller in the air. Just think logically that if there was a bad storm the pilots wont risk anything.

Sure the bumps and shaky stuff can rattle you and I take valium before I fly but from what I have read turbulence isnt bad but uncomfortable.
Microbursts and wind shear are bigger issues but pilots are rally well trained for this so dont wory.
As for the plane types think that you get to try out the 787 and the A330 must be fine to go to Hong Kong I think somebody here used to fly it to Hawaii and I think Qantas also fly one to Hong Kong.

So just enjoy the trip and all the great things to see overseas.

You'll have an amazing flight. Get a window seat so you can periodically check the engines if you like ;)

I don't think there Is ANY modern transcontinental aircraft that you can be at all worried about. Today is nothing like the Olden Days!

With respect to the concept of "premium" airlines, that's not something that IMHO you need to really consider. Yes there are cheap airlines you might avoid, but the main reason to avoid is psychological; just because you think they might not be as safe, not because that's true. And Virgin isn't one of these.

I flew EasyJet a few weeks back, and Air Brussels 2 weeks after ... both were surprisingly more comfortable (with more knee-room) than Jetstar on the same A320 aircraft. I've not checked the seat maps to see if Jetstar are jamming more rows in

My experience with typhoon season in Hong Kong and flying to the UK at about this time of year was that I got to Sydney airport, saw that my flights had been cancelled, I stressed-out TOTALLY UNNECESSARILY, I went to the Cathay Pacific counter, I had to wait while they made a couple of calls ... they booked me onto British Airways the whole way through, and even though I was waiting in Sydney for 4 hours I ended-up in Heathrow on the train to the CBD before the original Cathay flight had been scheduled to land.
In short - don't stress! :)
