Great deal. This was from the email-
Convert Your Hotel Points Into AAdvantage® miles
and Earn Up To 35% Bonus Miles Towards Your Next TripNow through June 30, 2010 you have a unique opportunity to convert your
hotel points into American Airlines AAdvantage® miles and earn a bonus on
the amount of AAdvantage miles you receive from the conversion.
Earn a bonus of:
When you convert hotel points to:
25%
1,000 - 20,000 AAdvantage miles
35%
More than 20,000 AAdvantage miles

For example, convert your points into 20,000 AAdvantage miles and earn
5,000 bonus miles from American Airlines to have enough for a round-trip
flight award. Convert your points into 40,000 AAdvantage miles and you'll
earn 14,000 bonus miles from American Airlines.

So 20k SPG = 25k AA + 8.75k AA Bonus = 33.75k. i.e. 592,592 SPG = 1MM = LTG or 1,185,185 SPG = 2MM = LTP. (Ignoring the fact that you can't transfer more than 60k SPG a day)

So, 60700 Amex MR = 20,031 SPG = 33,781 AA.

NB, With the old Amex 1000:600 mistake rate promo, it was:
33400 Amex MR = 20,040 SPG.

The different bonus rates are a bit confusing - if you convert 21,000 do you get the full 35% bonus? (ie 5,000 at 20,000 but 7,350 at 21,000)

And, as noted above, how does the 5,000 point bonus factor in - if you convert 20,000 points and get 25,000 miles, do you get 25% of 20,000 or 35% of 25,000? Can't seem to work it out from the promo info.

Anyway, confusing though it may be, I'll take AA's consistent and tier-based promos over QF and their arbitrarily-targeted promos any day.

AAdvantage Lifetime Gold - here I come.

Cleared out my now-unused Marriott Rewards points over to AAdvantage today, so that takes me over the 900K lifetime miles. The Marriott points were going to expire soon and I had no need for a night at a Marriott. Note Marriott points transfer to AAdvantage ceases after 30th June 2010.

Now have 181900 Amex points on their way to SPG, which will provide just over 60K SPG to become 75K AA miles plus 35% bonus taking me over the MM AAdvantage lifetime miles.

Been waiting for this promo for a while

Thank you! It sounds too good to be true.

I don't really see the value in the promo for me anyway.. From what I read you only get 1500 aa miles for 10,000 Hilton Honors points.
Yes but with the 35% bonus my calculations getting an Aaward RTW 25000-35000 miles would be the same value as getting a Hilton hotel costing $500 a night for my current HH points. It would also take me above 1400000 AA miles so 70% to LTP.So starting to be tempting.

HHonors points may not be the greatest value for transfer to AAdvantage. But using SPG to launder Amex points become attractive once again. And in my case I had 30,000 Marriott points that were going to expire anyway, so they have become 12500 AAdvantage miles. Priority Club points could also be a source given the ease of earning, but I have been using them for family accommodation recently so will retain them with PC.

Dad had 10,500 PC points sitting there that he wasn't going to use (according to him, honest!), so I took the initiative and will soon have 2500 AA Miles, just the amount I needed to make a perfect 3 business class tickets to NZ with AAward. 2500 + 50,000 buyAAmiles = 52500 :)

Does anyone know how long it takes for SPG points to transfer to AA? I saw a reference to 2-4 weeks on their website - is that true or are they just covering their bases? I'm trying to ensure that I can take advantage (no pun intended) of the current AA 35% bonus offer.

Interesting I have 50-100k Marriott and 100k Hilton points that I
Might move...

I transferred 3 blocks of points from SPG to AA during the last week (2 x 60K and 1 x 40K) and they all posted sometime Monday morning Aussie time.
Thanks futaris and NM - I've missed the Friday cutoff so I'll transfer another batch tonight and hopefully see both batches in my AA account next Monday.

Pretty good deal. I transferred 80k SPG points at the end of May so am somewhat miffed to have missed out!

Thanks guys, both batches of SPG points came across to AA in the early hours of this morning (Monday), as predicted. The 35% AA bonus takes seven (7) business days and so I'll have to wait another day or two to see those hit the account. All good.
