Hmm, I wonder why I didn't get this email.
It is cheaper to buy the points than to book a room at the Sydney Hyatt, But I didn't like their hotel. Melbourne and Canberra are nice though.

Can I ask why you don't like the Park Hyatt Sydney? It's in their top 10 properties IMHO (excluding resorts).

Rude staff and poorly finished hotel based on our personal travel there. Now this may have been a once off, but the fact that the staff were happy to be so rude to a guest even once at a hotel that charges upwards of $800 a night is not worth it and will now never be worth it in our opinion. So we won't go back to test it out. SOTP had superior service and rooms finished properly and 1/3 the price I would stay there again. Hilton on George is another I wouldn't stay at again.

Son with the bonus you can get 39,000 points for $720... What does 39,000 points get you???

When did you stay? They finished a $60 million dollar, 12 month renovation Feb 1st 2012.

Not doubting you had a bad experience, i've just not heard anything but glowing reviews (and i'm staying there this week for the first time so i'll be able to see first hand).

After Jan 7th, a lot less.

Award Chart Changes

Park Hyatt Sydney was a Cat 6 and will move to the newly formed Cat 7 (from 22k to 30k for a night).

Grand Hyatt Melbourne moves up a Cat from 3 to 4 (which sucks, I still think that was one of the best deals around in a suite, it goes from 18k to 24k!) and the Park Hyatt also moves from 4 to 5.

We stayed in May 2012.
I am sure you will love it.
We have a view from our rented flat so the view isn't worth the price to us and the service wasn't up to scratch so personally from our experience it was disappointing and I wouldn't recommend it but then my friends/family have the option to stay with me. If you are from somewhere else and want that view it may be worth it. Paying with cheap points is better than cash.
I prefer all other Hyatts in AU though. Thats just our experience.

Oh dang it... seriously! maybe I should buy points and book now... hmm how many do we have left over is the question.
I will have to look at the chart as I was going to use points for MLE and CDG stays hopefully at some point next year.

I can only guess you must have hit a bad spot at this property. I had my first ever stay there this last w/end, and all I can say is… WOW. Best hotel in Australia i've ever stayed at.

Upon walking in, I was greeted, the manager was called and I was escorted to my room for in-room checkin. My Diamond Amenity was provided without question (a bottle of red worth in excess of $40). I ordered room service late in the evening and it arrived within 10 minutes. The a la carte breakfast was stunning, as was the buffet. The whole thing left me happy and sad at the same time, knowing that I can't stay there often and that no other hotel has come close to meeting the level of service it provided.

My room had a stunning view of the Opera House, a generous balcony with comfortable furniture to enjoy the amazing view, a brilliant shower, super comfortable bed and in general, a brilliant room.

I then stayed in an Ambassador Suite at the Park Hyatt in CBR on Saturday night, and whilst it was lovely (HUGE room of course), it felt decidedly dated. The room was showing definite signs of age, and was in desperate need of a refresh (was the Menzies Suite). It looked like the last time it had been updated was in the 80's. It was immaculately clean, and the property itself is simply gorgeous, but i'd rather the Park Hyatt Sydney room I had.

Yeah, we pretty much received none of that service.
We had breakfast but I don't remember much about it so it can't have been outstanding compared to where/what we would normally eat. I know I got eggs benedict, because that is what I order.
I am sure if we received service such as your experience the lack of finish to the room would have gone unnoticed.
Suffice to say we wont be back even based on your or others fabulous experience, as it could happen once it can happen again.
I left feed back and was contacted but I don't remember what the outcome was. Nothing to prompt me to return.
I have thought about dining there for lunch or dinner so maybe the food was good, if I have that thought in my mind.
CBR I have stayed at, I had a almost rude staffer there but it wasn't part of the check in he just happened to be where I was when I was there. I was getting ready to go to a wedding reception (the ceremony had been overseas a few months before) and needed something from the store so ran from my room down to the little shop without shoes or keys or anything and the duty manager was in there and commented that I was wearing socks and no shoes, I just said "thats right" bought what I needed and left him to pick his jaw up from the floor and ran back to get ready.
Melb would be my fave, of the two tho I am not sure as I have only been in a club room at Grand and a suite and Park and it is not fair to compare.
I am only Platinum, so maybe they don't feel to be kind to us lower members. Although when they saw my points balance and stay history at Sydney they were decidedly more polite and tripping over themselves to be helpful, but by then the damage was done.

Whats this mainly used for? Saw a brief piece on pointshack but I'm not the type of person that spends 300/ night on a hotel in the first place.

30,000 points will get you a night at PH Sydney - going rate at this property is around $800+ a night for the cheapest room.
