Does anyone know if United Mileage Plus will allow you to redeem flights for family members?

My partner and I each have about 45000 United miles - enough for 4 (in total) Y flights from Australia to NZ and back. We are never going to use these as seem to only fly on world/QF.

Could I ring their call centre - (india/phillipines) I think? How will I go if surnames don't match? QF never query fact that my mother's name is different (she uses her maiden name) but I can imagine some airlines might.

thanks,

No probs, you can get Mileage Plus award tickets in anyone's name, there are no restrictions whatsoever. Makes Qantas look ultra draconian (which they are).

Why waste your points just going to NZ? You can also get R/T tickets to the Cook Is, Fiji, Tahiti, Tonga, Samoa and New Caledonia for the same number of points.
