*Two separate flights, on separate tickets:
1 EK ticketed on EK
1 QF ticketed on EK

*Less than 24 hours between flight 1 arrival & flight 2 departure

Does this mean that baggage can be "checked through" from the original point of departure to the final destination?

Also - possible to overnight at the airside hotel in Dubai, without having to claim baggage and re-check in for the second flight?

Background ... Euro trip had been planned to be a simple award flights PER-DXB-Europe & Europe-DXB-PER. However, since, to quote another thread, "Qantas treats PER like dirt" the PER-Europe (and vice versa) flights have recently become severely restricted or completely unavailable to some destinations. So, trip replanned to use whats available, but burning extra points outbound (all on one QF ticket) means not sufficient for full inbound, thus first leg out of Europe to Dubai is on EK ticket (cash and EK points), and second stage is QF (award).

I've searched the forum and think (hope) that I can get the checked through baggage and overnight airside without problems.

Thanks to anyone who can confirm I'm correct!

If it was a oneworld to oneworld connection the answer previously would have been YES, but is now NO.

Here however you are EK to EK - and will be checking in at the EK desk so I suspect they will be able to make this happen.

EK to EK *should* be no problem but it all depends how efficient their ground handling staff are. I had one QF ticket Classic Award SYD/AKL on EK412 in whY then a separate paid flight on QF8770 (EK435) in F AKL/BNE same day (few hours transit in AKL) and the guy at the EK Premium checkin had no idea how to do it. I ended up just getting the AKL/BNE boarding pass in the EK lounge at AKL.

Despite your transit being less than 24 hours some airlines still can't through check bags (the checkin system can inhibit through check eg if transit is over 12 hours) but it's very dependant on what airport you're transferring through. With DXB I don't envisage you'll have any problems as long as the EK ground staff have to knowledge to link the flights.

Even if you had QF metal to EK metal on separate pnrs you can be through checked as the OW ruling that came into effect on 01 Sep 2016 has no bearing on the QF/EK agreement.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Thanks.

I'll be planning as described, and will make sure I fully brief the initial check-in staff on the requirements. (And with luck I'll be able to get a boarding pass for the second leg before starting the first leg, which might help in remaining airside in Dubai).
