Trying to work out Syd - Buenos Aires then return Rio de Janeiro to Syd

Hi all

Its late I know but I found out today that I won a 2 for 1 cruise leaving Buenos Aires to Rio de Janeiro 21st to 28th Jan 2014. I need to let the competition people know within 48 hours and pay them. It is on the Silver Cloud cruise ship which looks amazing!!!!

Only problem is I have just spent 4 hours looking for flights and am now no closer to finding a solution that works.

Need to be home in Sydney as soon after the cruise finishes on 28th Jan to get back to work.
Am a QFF member so would prefer to go oneworld if poss
Am willing to go via Dubai if needed on the way over and spend a few days there if it is cheaper.

Hope someone else can help me with this good but bad problem I have!

Can I assume you are looking for flights for two people and want to pay using cash (as opposed to points)?

Is the issue that you cannot find flights at all or that you can't find them at a reasonable price.

i just did a quick search and although QF won't let you book this in one go, you can book SYD-EZE (Buenos Aires)-SYD on one ticket and then buy a one way ticket Buenos Aires to Rio de Janiero. You can get this with QF/LAN (booked on Qantas site) for AUD$2822 per person, plus the cost of a one way RIO-EZE flight. Leaving (and arriving) on 20 Jan, returning 29 Jan (arriving 30 Jan).

Alternatively, book SYD-SCL(Santiago de Chile)-SYD with QF (available for $2692 return per person departing 18/19 Jan and returning 29 Jan) and then buy an open jaw flight or two one way tickets SCL to EZE and RIO to SCL. E.g. You can get a flight SCL-EZE on the afternoon you arrive in Santiago, then get GIG(Rio)-SCL the night before you fly back from SCL to SYD. All up US$371, when booked on the US site as a multi-city booking. Caution: if you book from LAN's Australian site, you will pay more!

Yeah trying to find something that is reasonable in cost at this late stage. It is peak travel season to South America
