Earlier in the year I took advantage of the Double Status Credit promotion and I booked a Business Class trip from Melbourne (MEL) to Denpasar (Bali - DPS) via Sydney (SYD) on Qantas. This trip I figured would finally get me to lifetime gold membership with Qantas after 14.5 years and provide me access to the QF Sydney International First Class Lounge for the first time ever.

Not long afterwards my older sister found out she would be losing her job as it was outsourced after working for 10 years for a small business / sporting club. Kara's husband has access to staff travel discounts so before I knew it I was inviting Kara and my niece to Bali to celebrate the next stage.

Fast forward a few weeks and I was talking to my younger sister Lana who wished she would be going. Lana has just recovered from breast cancer after 12 months of treatments and surgery and will be spending the next 6 months in recovery with lots of tests. Lana hadn't been overseas since she was 11 and having separated from her husband two years ago I thought this was a great idea. From here I asked her to join us in Bali and after hearing she didn't really have the money it was time to use my Qantas points for her and her children to join us.

Somehow I went from just me travelling to Bali to having my two sisters, two nieces and one nephew joining me. But after the worry of my younger sisters cancer scare I couldn't think of anything I'd rather do. Bali for 6 days, first class lounge access, lifetime gold membership and my sisters both well and happy. Couldn't be better.

What a lovely thing for you to do for your younger sister and her family. I hope you all had a wonderful trip.

Subscribing - never been to Indo, always looking to learn.

Off to Bali again in November so I'm in again. Also using the DSC offer to get there via Sydney on Qantas.

Nice one. Looking forward to your reviews of Bali. Never been myself, but one day...

Just think about the DSC's.

Definitely thinking of the DSC getting me to LTG and making requalifying as a WP almost in the bag!

The flight was very good but feels weird how a domestic fight has a better hard product in business class than international flight.

Here is the food and drinks menu for QF043. Sorry for the quality of the photos.

Day one trip report is up https://nathanburgessinsights.com/2...bourne-to-denpasar-bali-indonesia-via-sydney/

Basically a summary of the flights and first class lounge review but added references to Melbourne airport and Denpasar airport experience plus the joy of seeing my younger sister had safely gotten to Denpasar and the smile on her face. This trip is mostly about her and her children.

Tomorrow Waterbom Park :)

Haven't been to Bali in years. Hope you enjoy the trip

Day 2 saw us visit Waterbom park in Kuta and my nieces and nephews somehow successfully daring me into racing them on lots of crazy 'rides' / slides.

Boy I thought I was past peer pressure, especially from kids 30 years younger than me :)

The fish seemed to enjoy feeding in my feed at the Fish Spa Therapy, the girls definitely loved getting their fingers and toes painted.
