Well this trip report will be minus all the recreation and holidaying info as it’s from a JASA SC Run trip. I have a few hours to kill in ADL so thought I would do this before I settle in to finish the end of a movie I started last night.

Well my second SC run during this double SC period started yesterday. My trip is as follows :
Day 1 : BNE-SYD-HBA
Day 2 : HBA-MEL-ADL-BNE-TSV-BNE

as said here couldn't make a straight TSV-BNE-ADL ret work. http://www.australianfrequentflyer....-idea-take-advantage-22858-16.html#post466285

Currently in ADL.

BNE to SYD had a bit of a dragon CSM, just didn’t seem happy to be there. I had 2 and a bit hours in SYD before my flight to HBA so thought I would go into the city to the Apple store to test out the Bose QC15 Noise Canceling earphones. Caught the train in, walked to apple store, tried the first pair, nothing happening, tried the second pair same results. waited around for a while till a staff member was free and he had same result. He said it was likely because the battery was dead and he would go and see if he could find someone to change it. Little odd I thought (the go find someone part), but ok. 5 or so mins later he came back and told me he couldn’t find anyone who was able to change the batteries. He was not allowed to nor was anyone else on the floor ( 3 floors I should say) His solution was for me to buy them and return them within 14 days if I wasn’t happy. I thought not. So caught train back to airport and waited for my flight. SYD business lounge was virtually empty. They had a nice lunch selection out which filled the gap and a quick drink to.

Boarded flight to HBA. Great CSM on board and other attendant in business. As an aside, there is a Lord Mayor’s conference being held in HBA so the Perth Lord Mayoress and her husband and colleague was in row 1. For Brisbane ratepayers, like myself, the BNE Lord Mayor was in Economy, so least he’s seems to be looking after rate payer funds!

Noodle duck salad was the meal, it was nice, shame it wasn’t served hot though. I tried the plunger coffee again, but couldn’t do it, something just not right with that. When landed had the usual “... quarantine dogs operate ins some airports....” spiel. Disembarking and to my surprise was walking down the stairs onto the tarmac. Not that I’m to good for that or anything, do it all the time on Virgin, just not expecting it thats all. Quite chilly in Hobart at 4:15pm. Then as we were entering the terminal, there was a quarantine detector dog, first one i’d ever seen at domestic airport!

Walked through the HBA airport (shed) and to the car rental place where I called the Hobart Airport Hotel ( Motel really) and within a few minutes they were there with their shuttle bus to pick (just) me up. 2 min later at the motel and checking in. Perfectly comfortable motel, quite new and just fine for an overnight transit. After I settled in to room, I went to reception to see if there was anything in walking distance to see - she said no. I thought I will go for a walk any way. 2 mins later I’m back, she was right!! Well i wasn’t there for sight seeing so I just went to room and took out my mac. Restaurant in motel was pleasant and relatively well priced. I had an entree, main, dessert, glass of wine and baileys to finish for $64 which I thought was great value.

4:30am walk up call, ready for 5am shuttle to airport for flight to MEL. Walked into airport, no check in kiosks so I went to counter and checked in. Went through security and looked around for QP and couldn’t see it anywhere, asked security and was told its outside near the arrivals ( before going through security). thought about just waiting where i was but had 45 mins, so went back out and into the QP. Small room with 50 or so chairs. Waited there a while then back through security and ready for the tarmac boarding through both front and rear doors.

Same cabin crew as my flight down yesterday. “Short visit Sir, very short”, Yes I replied. Up and away we go. Very nice quiche for breakfast. CSM remembered that I wasn’t a fan of the plunger coffee and asked if I wanted to try a different one, the one “we” have ourselves. Much better, just like a regular drip filtered. Landed in MEL a little while later, where it was colder than HBA even just in the aerobridge.

Only 50 mins to my next flight. A quick visit to the MEL business lounge, mainly because I had never been in there. Nothing too special as has been said on these boards before., but least I’ve been there now. Was looking at next flight details and see that I leave at 8:10 and arrive at 9:00am so I thought a really short flight.

Boarded, had a bit of a dragon CSM again. we took off a little late. Pilot got on PA and said we’d make up some of the time and expected to land at 9:10. Little later, I looked at my watch and it was approaching 8:45 and we hadn't been served breakfast yet. Not that I was hungry, just I was thinking, they aren't going to have time. 5 or so minutes later they started and thought everyone would have to eat very fast. I took the hot option again, spinach and mushroom omelette, ate half. Then I saw the guy sitting next to me take his watch off and adjust the time, thats when I realized I’d forgotten about the 30 mins time difference. Don’t know why, I’ve been to adelaide a few times just completely forgot this time. No harm done.

Now I sit in the ADL QP awaiting my 11:50 to BNE and then on to TSV . Today I have had 3 cities before 9:30am. By the time I get back to BNE tonight I would have spent 16.5 hours on either a plane or in airports/lounges, and that doesn’t include yesterday. But I’m sure that nothing too new for many of you here!

Boarding now in 30 mins....till next time

PS - thanks to all on the boards for the info in helping me put the SC run together especially markis10, limewood and matjk

Very interesting trip around the east coast of Oz :) how many miles and AUD did you end up spending for this one?

yes interesting, shame I didn't actually see anything much other than airports and lounges!! Back in brisbane now in a choc-o-block business lounge waiting for BNE-TSV.

It was about 96k points and $400ish. I think I earn about $10k plus I get two loyalty bonuses due to this trip so this is another 10k points i think.

Great report - I might have to kick off my new membership year with a JASA soon I think ;)

A quick shuttle flight down to TSV to kick off a Markis Special might work for me....

Really?? PER is my home port, and you can guarantee that as sure as the sun rises, a WAQIS dog will be on patrol and sniffing around the pax of any interstate flight at the baggage belt. One thing which did annoy me about HBA was that the handler was allowing the dog to walk over the top of th luggage on the belt. I know that there's only one belt at the QF end of the terminal, but having the dog walk on the bags was unnecessary.

The last couple of visits to PER my bags have been thoroughly sniffed by a very efficient yellow Labrador.
Have to resist the temptation to pat her ;)

I think I saw this on a trip last year. Actually thought it was pretty impressive the way the dog moved along (though was a little worried the dog could get a paw caught on a strap or something). Seemed a sensible way to check a lot of luggage quickly though I guess it'd be bad for anyone with dog allergies (but then again, airlines seem to be behind the times with allergies - the way they hand out nuts on the US flights makes me wonder if those with an anaphylaxis reaction to nuts just can't fly). It actually looked to me like the dog was trained to jump up on the belt and it was part of the inspection process.

A few years ago I remember it being beagles in Sydney international airport checking bags - found a few things too (was a UA flight back from the USA, found lots of snack food and oddly a few wrapped hamburgers in different peoples bags).
