Hi all not sure of where to ask this but if anyone has flown from Australia to Japan in the last month or so could tell me about the visitjapan requirement? I was told to register by Qantas onthe visitjapan site but when I do it only tells me I don't need to wear a mask or have proof of vaccination. So what happens when we get to Haneda on Friday? Do I only need my passport? Thanks Kate

I went there a few months ago and flying in was much easier with the visit japan thing. You don't need to do the Covid stuff anymore (if it's still on there) but you can fill in the rest and scan the qr codes when asked.

You need this page www.vjw.digital.go.jp and make an account if you have not done already.

You still have to do the immigration and customs part of the Visit Japan form, just not the health/Covid part. If you don't show your barcode at check-in, you'll be sent aside to complete it then at the airport, so you really should just do it in advance.

You don't have to do the Visit Japan online thing, it just makes things faster upon arrival (you can do the customs check while waiting for bags and go out an e gate instead of having to see an agent). I had no push back at check in at CPH for not (yet) having updated the Visit Japan account for the new arrival.
The old arrivals form is still around, JAL offered it last week on JL36 from SIN and people in the arrivals hall were checking if people had filled in the form, or had the QR code ready.
QF is likely pushing people to use the online form so they no longer have to carry the paper forms.

We're going at the end of Sept.. is this website still the recommended option?
It is a replacement for the paper form. Some airlines no longer carry them, so if you don't use the digital form, you'll have to find one and fill it in on the ground before going through arrival procedures.

You'll have to make an account (email address) for the digital form and update it for each arrival.
There seems to be fewer questions at immigration and customs when you use the digital form. Likely since it gives them up to 3 days before arrival to vet the passengers.

The site makes 2 different QR codes, one for immigration and one for customs. You can screen cap them so you don't need to access data roaming/connect to airport wifi.
