Transit time in Changi airport

I am planning to redeem my Krisflyer points for a return Sydney-Kuala Lumpur trip. This of course, involves a stop-over in Singapore. The options available, with regards to packaging of the SYD-SIN and SIN-KUL flights, are very limited. In fact I only have one option for the outbound flight where I arrive in Singapore at 5.45pm and the departure time to Kuala Lumpur is 6.45pm. My concerns are as follows:

1. Practically, is 1 hour transit time sufficient? I assume that effective period is probably 30 minutes or less as the boarding gate would usually be opened 30 minutes prior to departure. I understand that Changi airport is huge and it can be a long walk from one gate to another.

2. If I miss my SIN-KUL flight, what are the consequences? Would SIA arrange for me to get on the next flight free of charge? What if I miss the flight due to delay in arrival from Sydney?

I believe 1 hour is a valid connection in SIN.

I would not worry if the award booking allows you to book SYD-SIN-KUL with a 1 hour connection in SIN. It would be up to SQ to accommodate you on the next available flight. Hopefully that means the next flight if flights are not overbooked.

If I remember correctly my mother had ~55 minute transit in SIN on a SYD-SIN-ATH and made it quite easily. Ground staff are quite good and will usually hold a flight if there are enough connecting passengers.

As long as you book it as one ticket, Sq would protect you onto the next flight if there is a delay on your inbound. I have done the exact transit above many times. 45 mintues, I believe, is the MCT. The Sin-Kul flight departs from T2; Your Syd-Sin may arrive into T2 or T3 (note: all A380s arrive at T3), and you only find out about 1 hour before arrivals. You can see this info on your PTV, including departure gate. If you arrive into T3 , you need to take the train to T2, or if you arrive in T2, you just have to walk to the next gate within the same terminal. You will get all your BPs in Syd. There is a map in the inflight magazine (or see link below), including the train station locations; you remain airside at all times. Your bags will make the transfer...Changi is most efficient when it comes to bags.....

Its funny how three regular members here have different numbers, as I'm sure that the MCT for SQ to SQ at SIN is 50minutes My last experience was 12 months ago when I flew SYD-SIN-KUL with SQ, and then connected onto LH to BKK. I'm sure I rushed from one terminal to the other, but still found time to use those uSqueeze massage chairs

True, for SQ connections at Changi the MCT is 50 minutes. Saying that I have had connections from QF5 onto QF9 where the aircraft arrived late into SIN and was sitting in my seat 35mins after landing. And the bags made it to London... where they got lost during the 2 hour transit...

Since Singapore Changi airport is uber efficient, your bags will easily make it to their connecting aircraft; you on the other hand will be relying on your ability to read and walk.
