Transit in SYD

Good morning to all.

Just a question about transit in SYD from QF128 (arvl from HK) at 0720am TO LA800 (bound to AKL-SCL) at 0930.
I checked on the airport official website and I found the information a bit unclear and confusing.
They mention the fact that you need to pick up your lugage and rescreen and recheck them when you continue on a domistic fligh but about international it is not very clear.

For what I understood there is an international transfer area inside Terminal 1, and if I am correct both my flights will arrive and depart from T1 Int'l .
So just wanted to confirm that we won't have to collect our lugages, go through immigration and check-in again.
Our bags should be tagged to Calama from HKG as the ticket is a "all-in-one"PNR HKG-SYD-SCL-CJC.

So I'd be happy to read any info from those of you used to do international transfer in SYD. I also hope that we have sufficient time. We could have taken a early flight as the LAN customer service staff told us the minimum transit time in SYD is 1h, but I never trust them as they are, very often (every airline), wrong.

Very easy, just follow the transfer signs, no need to collect bags etc. The international terminal is quite small (relatively) so should be easy to navigate. Hopefully you'll get boarding passes for the entire journey in HKG, so should be very easy.

As for you're last comment on the minimum transit time, personally if its on one PNR and there are several flights later that day, I'll book for the shortest connection knowing that if I miss it, they will rebook me on to the next one.

Yes you are right, I usually do the same but not this time as, when we planned the trip we planned to have the last flight with another airline but finally we decided to book all in one ticket to avoid unecessary risk, even if a bit more expensive. LCC aren't so flexible when you miss their flight because of the late arrival of another airline's plane.

Assuming that you have all BPs issued in HKG and your bags are tagged through, just follow the signs for International Transfer. You will have to pass through transfer security which deposits you back airside in the International Terminal.
