Tokyo Haneda slot - how will Virgin Operate it?

The flight up, you do have an overnight in CNS, no?
I think you see it wrong, its pricing "from"
PER - HND in J, for Dec, in J/subclass of J, is $2469 one way, going up.
Flex fare is $1300.
Coming back, if for 23 Dec, J is unavailable, so its a tight Y seat.
===
All the combo's listed for the 23 Dec, as J not available on the way back, not sure if this is for HND - CNS, or CNS direct to PER or via another east coast city as not available.
No overnights. $3,358.94 return business class (coming back via MEL).

Would be great with a DSC.

The 737-8 MAX would've taken over the CNS-HND service well by then. Weight restrictions (if any) on the -8 would be minimal at best.

I think you're overstating the payload capacity of the -8; in any case weight restrictions don't seem to be a problem on the -700 with current sales!

These flights had been advertised as a MAX for many months so it’s fair to assume these numbers wouldn’t have been much different max or no max.

Forward bookings are obviously weak.

The fares don't seem particularly cheap - for random dates later this month, VA was 50% more than JQ (~$1200 vs $790). SYD-HND on the same dates with QF is ~$1850. VA SYD-CNS-HND was same price ~$1850.

VA should be discounting this much more than it is.

VA should be priced no different to JQ. I mean, what’s the difference, a free water or coffee. They both have baggage free fares.

If the MAX had seat back IFE and a greater pitch then perhaps they could charge a bit more. Otherwise I fail to see any price premium to JQ.

If anything should be cheaper than JQ.....

If this continues, then it shows QLD can't write a contract to save itself.

VA isn't doing much for inbound tourism with this service, which was the whole point of the AAIF fund. You would think there'd be KPIs for the money to continue.

The landing fees at HND alone cost around A$2K - at loads of 17 that's $122 pp. Fortunately CNS charge per pax.

Maybe they expected it to sell better?

Like been posted above.

Fly VA get whole row of seats to yourself, fly JQ get 1 seat to yourself.

Seems the food hellova lot better on VA.

Hmm choices choices.

It appears VA78 is cancelled from HND to SYD - 3rd July. VA77 from CNS to HND is also cancelled tomorrow - 4th July. I wonder if it is aircraft issues or limited passenger numbers. I assume they will be accommodated on ANA.

VA78 HND-CNS tonight is cancelled too. VA flight status page says “Adverse weather across our network is affecting our services today.”

I feel like this is just a standard response.
Oh it’s definitely a message generated from a script, but they use a whole range of them.

If the aircraft was tech, it would have said “unplanned aircraft maintenance.” If it was a crewing issue, “we’re waiting for our crew to join us from another flight.”

If they whip out the “adverse weather” one, it usually is because of weather. How adverse that weather actually is, well that’s a different story.

Isn't the adverse weather excuse when an airline doesn't have to compensate you as it's not their fault as opposed to tech issue?

That's my understanding, happy to be corrected.

Quick google search shows that airlines can avoid compensation for weather events outside of their control. You might be right.

  • outside of the airline's control (such as bad weather), airlines will usually try to help you get to your destination, but they won't be responsible for paying any costs or expenses you may incur as a result of the delay or cancellation.
