Thanks for all the info folks... after a schedule change by ANZ, now leaving a day later....so the great tips from this website have been:
- Get your bike license ASAP and rent a bike
- Location suggestions, tough call on hotel style or house style, both have their pros - we decided on the hotel style at Edgewater resort
- Pearls, keep some powder/cash dry to make mrs wallacej happy
- Transit through NZ airport to catch up with a friend
- Inability to get lounge access (although a negative, still good to know)
- And be AWARE of island time...

Any more tips would be great, still 116 days to go...this time I am more excited by the destination (non work related) than I am by the flight!

G'day harvey - just a quick question - transfer from airport to edgewater resort. It looks like it is only a few kms from the airport. I read your trip report and as detailed as it was I couldnt find the part about transit.
The hotel says that they dont offer a transfer, but can arrange it for $35 per person return. What is taxi availability like?
If anyone else has any knowledge that would be great too... the count down is on, less than 30 days for a trip that involves NO work, phones or internet.

On the topic of lounge accessat AKL . . . there's always the Akarana/Deathstar lounge ($9.99NZD)

Can that lounge be accessed even if flying AirNZ?? Cool, a googling I will go..

Just looked it up, opened in Feb according to jetstar website...copy and paste...

"Exclusive to domestic passengers travelling with Jetstar, the Ākarana"

I had a look and you need to be on a JQ domestic flight.... it's only $30NZD to cancel and refund a jetflex fare though so if you could be bothered you could get access for $39.99NZD all up.
