So my flight to Fiji on the 14th has been rerouted via Sydney ...which i find a strange ploy for qantas to try and entice me to get a voucher which i can only use before the end of September ,,,,, err, what happens if we are in the same situation then? My friend was meeting up with me in the US ( i was flying nan -lax) she is flying from the UK to the US with Aer Lingus. She can have a FULL refund or .... has 5 years to use her voucher!

Sorry this is a bit confusing to read.

All I can say is that QF have clearly indicated that if the situation is the same beyond the end of May they will obviously make arrangements.

I am not certain about your reference to being rerouted via Sydney why this has anything to do with vouchers, but OK. As for your UK friend and a voucher use for 5 years? Is that an EI thing?

Seems to me if you can't have your rendez-vous (which seems zero chance) best thing to do is get as much credit as one can. Airlines are being very generous in these unusual circumstances IMO.

I'm sorry this is quite confusing to me.

I'm guessing they were originally flying X - Fiji and that's cancelled, which would normally result in a refund. However, instead of cancelling the OP's flight, Qantas have re-routed them via Syd (eg. X - Syd; Syd - Fiji).

Very ambigious post, though. The 14th of when?! Qantas international flights are grounded at the end of the month.

Sorry folks I was booked BNE NAN 14 Apr booked with QF but Fiji metal. They have cancelled bne-nan and booked me via Sydney. QF bne syd then Fiji are to man. I then have a Separate flight to lax different pnr

. So the Aus route to Fiji has always been Fiji airways albeit booked with QF. I cannot cancel fora full refund as the difference is only a few hours therefor I guess so cannot get a full refund. From NAN I was travelling on a separate PNR to LAX

My post is, more a dig at QF. Their voucher will only allow a change to fly until Sep 30. My mates with Aer Lingus is valid for 5 years. If a tiny airline like Aer Lingus can
offer such a good deal why can’t qantas. If September 30th arrives and we are still in the same predicament what happens to our vouchers then? I’m also concerned about price hikes. You have a voucher now they could raise the price by loads and then you are stuck with a voucher that may not be worth it. maybe I’m over thinking things. Sorry stupid iPad doesn’t want to write what I do ;)

You’ll be lucky to get on a flight at all. We’ll be approaching 10,000 cases by then, no way Fiji will be letting Australians in.

Airlines aren’t giving refunds where they not have to because that is what will make them bankrupt.

Yep I know, no one is going anywhere but I am just wondering, why the just rebooked me? I guess because they want to issue a credit rather than pay out a cancellation flight, however I’d only have until end September to use it. Other airlines offering longer times to use

I thought the voucher had to be used, as in for a forward booking, by September. Not fly by September? I haven’t cancelled anything yet as our international flights aren’t yet included being in July August and we still intend to fly our two domestic trips.

Maybe i am reading it wrong but i read it as, you must cancel your flight before 30 March to have access to the voucher and that must be redeemed by 30th Sept. I booked my flight way in advance so would need to use the credit by 30 Sept. The flight prices have increased a huge amount. If i want to rebook my whole trip it was cost me in excess of $3000 presently, maybe a bit less if i got a refund. I am booked for 14th April.
f your flight is not cancelled

Customers with existing bookings on any remaining international or Australian domestic flight until 31 May 2020, who no longer wish to travel, can cancel their flight and retain the value of their booking as a flight credit.

  • Cancellations must be processed by 31 March 2020.
  • It applies to all Qantas Group services including Jetstar and all partner airlines.
  • The flight credit must be redeemed by 30 September 2020 or within 12 months of the date that the original ticket was issued, whichever date is later. The change fee will be waived.

I would just wait. There is no way that flight to NAN will run. It will be cancelled. As for your separate ticket well... probably the same thing.
I also suspect the 31 March date will be extended very soon given that just about everything is shutting down.
