Hi all,

I am flying into this airport in June and was wondering what peoples experiences had been in how much time it typically took to clear Customs etc at Manchester Int Airport?

Flight lands Sunday morning at about 8.30 am.

Amongst other things I am looking to catch a train afterwards.

Thanks.

Customs at UK airports usually takes not time at all unless you are declaring something. If nothing to declare, just exit through the Green channel without delay. Of course they have the right to stop and search anyone exiting through the "nothing to declare" channel, but it seems rare for this to happen.

Immigration processing upon arriving into the UK is where any delays would occur, rather than at Customs. As with most airports, Immigration processing times vary greatly depending on the time of day and the number of concurrent international flight arrivals.

Thanks for that reply.

ADDITIOANAL INFORMATION

  • We will have nothing to declare
  • We are flying Business Class with SQ
    • I probably should have listed this in the OP as SQ will I assume issue me with pass for express queues as they have for other countries. I asume this is the case for a UK arrival at Manchester as well?
And yes by customs etc I also meant the total time to exit the terminal including immigration etc after flight arrival.

I am trying to get a feel of what the typical maximum time is for this particular airport is.

I have not arrived in the UK before.

Thanks.

I am not aware of any UK airports having "Fast Track" for inbound immigration processing. They have it for security screening both outbound and for arrivals connections. But I have not seen it for inbound immigration. You will have to queue up with everyone else. Hence the time requirements are very variable and dependent on the number of concurrent international flight arrivals.

I used MAN last year. My experience was a INT CDG/LHR/MAN - the processing was done at LHR, then a few days later MAN/LHR/FRA where processing was done again at LHR.

My cousin who lives near Liverpool, uses whenever available MAN due to the speed of processing through C & I - he travels INT weekly so his advice I took as gospel.

I was flying BA so I dont know what facilities SQ offer, however, the BA lounge is awesome. The airport is a little dated but that aside, fast and easy to navigate.

Also the size of MAN would dictate that entire processing time would be fast.

Thanks for that.

So as an estimate one could expect to be through inside of an hour and perhaps well under that?

I would say easily. The airport itself isn't that big. It is located south of Manchester and just off the M56 which will take you to the M60 ring road if driving or cabbing.

I'm sorry, I can't comment on trains, and have no idea if there is even a rail station at MAN

Mr!

Thanks you have been most helpful.

My wife is flying in the day prior and will do some "Family Tree" research as she has forebares from nearby Stockport. We will then link up and catch the train to London. Can be as cheap as 11 Pounds.

Thanks. I am ok on the Train part.

There is station at the airport:
Manchester Airport : Train

To speed your way to cities further afield, up to 9 trains an hour link the airport to Manchester Piccadilly station in the city centre, where you can connect to fast rail services countrywide.
Once you arrive at The Station, it’s easy to reach the terminal buildings using the Skylink moving walkways. If you're flying to Manchester Airport you can book your onward rail tickets online and collect them from the self-service ticket machines in the baggage reclaim halls. Alternatively, you can buy your tickets from the booking office in The Station.

You can book on-line tickets easily.
