Saw that Tiger have a nice cheap sale this morning that will result in some good JQ price match fares.

These are the routes for travel in MAY:
Adelaide-Sydney $20
Adelaide-Alice Springs $20
Adelaide-Hobart $20
Adelaide-Brisbane $20
Melbourne-Hobart $10
Melbourne-Sydney $10
Melbourne-Canberra $10
Melbourne-Launceston $10
Melbourne-Adelaide $20
Melbourne-Brisbane $20
Sydney-Gold Coast $20
Brisbane-Rockhampton $10

And good thing is travel is on all days bar Fri/Sun.

Tomorrow's sale is for August, might be good for a some Brisbane runs.

Wouldn't catch me on Tiger even if they paid me to fly.

I don't know why people put up with such rubbish when alternatives are not that much more expensive.

Jetstar won't match most (and probably) all of these fares.

One of the requirements for a fare match is that there IS a fare. Tiger fares that are taxes only will not be matched.

Used JQ's price match for a bit of a grand tour in May for the 2MP clan.

OOL-SYD-MEL-HBA-MEL-SYD-OOL for $288 for the 4 of us over 10 days or so.

Ok, so there's no SCs, no FF points, but 24 sectors in total for an average of $12 each???
Equivalent price from QF's multi city domestic booking tool? $2692.

Now just need a hotel chain to have a sale too...

Beg to differ. According to the JQ CSA I was talking to (who was very helpful, very patient), providing the advertised fare is >$0, they'll match it. And they did.

He was obviously checking the TT fare as I was talking and came up with the TT-10% value with no prompting from me.

As it's been stated before, for domestic flights within AUs, all fares are inclusive of price, there is no base fare and then tax as per international flights.

I asked Jetstar to match a $2 fare and they wouldn't. The person I spoke to referred me to the price match T&Cs and indeed it does indicate a fare must be greater than $0.

Specifically:

Jetstar website said:
If the other airline's fare is unclear the comparison cannot be used in this promotion.

That's not true. Advertised prices are all-inclusive but there is a fare + tax. The tiger website breaks down fare + tax.

When you look at the price breakdown for one of the $10 TT fares it is $0 fare $9.09 taxes/fees and $0.91 GST. So technically that T&C may come into play.

But
when talking to the CSA (after he asked who the competitor was, in a "let me guess" find of way) he was quite open that there had been several calls requesting matching for the TT sale.

It does depend which operator you get, some will accept the price match yet others wont. My first attempt failed in that the guy picked up that it included $0 taxes and he wouldn't process it. Called that evening and the operator processed it. MEL-SYD-OOL for $27 :) Plus used the same sale this morning for August for some Brisbane travel for $18 each way.

The price match deal is good for JQ however I problem for JQ is that 80 people could ring JQ and get a price match on an advertised and available Tiger fare. As long as the fare stays available then is JQ going to price match?

In Tigers case they have a set number of fares at the low price and expire the price when they have sold their quota of specials. The price doesn't expire if the bookings keep going to JQ.

I'm sure JQ is safe thought - they seem to have a good business.

I had the same thought. IF Tiger only allocate ONE seat at $10, and everybody rings JQ instead, then in theory JQ could have an aircraft full of passengers paying $9!
I did remark to the CSA that it was a bit spooky that all of the flights I was looking at had a JQ flight leaving within the one hour stipulated in the price match guarantee T&Cs. So who would that be damaging the most?

I don't find JQ too bad (I've only had 4 flights with them so far), but would definitely hesitate before flying Tiger. Unfortunately, they are the only one who have decent fares to Alice Springs, so I may take a one-off risk for that.

Or worse, if it's a JQi sector, a flight full of WPs paying $9 each and accessing the flounge.
