The view from my "office"

Boring office at the moment, but things will be better in a few hours!

Rained in Canberra yesterday afternoon, very heavy frost this morning, -5 or there abouts. The car doors were frozen shut, I have never seen that before here in Canberra. Sigh, time to move……
Needless to say that my Brisbane to Cairns upgrade didn’t eventuate.

Used to get that all the time in northern Québec, where I lived for a year. You get freezing rain overnight, and the car will be encased in a sheath of ice all over it.

If not that bad, then the locks would be iced in, and you’d get the habit of carrying a little plastic bottle of alcohol to squeeze into it to free up the lock to put a key in it.

Then you had to be careful sitting down because the vinyl on the car is probably frozen rigid and will tear when you sat down.

And then driving, your breath would freeze on the inside of the windscreen. so you’d be scraping off ice on the inside as you drove along.

Ah! Quebec - Je me souviens 😳 Bloody hell I do.

Edit: Talking -30 to -35 overnight; balmy days of -10 or so; sun if I was lucky, blizzarding if not.

@Cossie lives down in the deep south of Canberra, at least he got it a bit better. It was colder again at our place in the north-west, up on the plains. But then, we don't have the big brown dome of smog to keep the heat in like our bigger cousins.

It was about -4 when I left home this morning to work ... I live in the city .. very icy breeze and dusting of ice/snow on the grass along the roads ... very nice to see .. I enjoy the cold weather - one of the reasons I moved to CBR and also work ...

Yes I don't see what the issue is. -5C?.. What's the world coming to. Do we want global warming or not...

Normally I’m not up early enough to see frost, :)
To be quite honest -5 doesn't really bother me, I was just so surprised that the doors were frozen shut. As I said, I’ve never had that happen before.

Now in balmy north Qld where there are are only 2 seasons, hot and hotter….

We flew directly over the reef, managed to see a few things, got an upgrade on the car, however it is a MG, which imho is not an upgrade and is something I had hoped never to drive.
Shortage of rentals up here in Cairns at the moment. Last year through the same company we had a Subaru Outback which was great.

Back to frozen cars - it really brought back some memories.

Freezing rain (off the web):

Never had this happen, but it's neat:

Actual view from my home office one morning. Not my bike.

Very easy to keep the beer cold, and within reach. From memory, that was a Dell 385. Who remembers 285s and 385s?

Block heaters - my 4WD Subaru is the second one in. The trick was to RUG UP and dash down first thing in the morning, turn the engine on and leave it running while you had breakfast etc, then its vaguely warm enough to drive off to work.

Morning drive to the office. Never used chains.

That's why I moved to London, too.

What kind of MG did you get? I had an upgrade to an MG EHS PHV recently, from the Peugeot 2008 (which I much preferred given the very tight streets around the Cote d'Azur.....). It was OK, but too big for me. The range was pretty poor actually once it used the battery it had.
We are on the Gold Coast slumming it in the Crowne Plaza. The view from the 22nd floor.

Oh gosh, it looks every bit as concrete and horrible as I remember it! I'm not sure I get the allure of the place.......
Hard to say, really. It was below the level of the buildings in town but judging by the light there was no direct sunlight going on.
But.......... where is it?

Walking along the park next to the water in Cairns, there was a young couple with 2 kids, one had run through the water sprays there and was saying she was cold. I commented that it was -5 in Canberra that morning and the car doors were frozen shut.
She said, same here, we flew up here from Canberra this morning and had to use warm water to get the car doors open….

Not sure about the model, it’s a largish 4 door suv, so probably a ZS. I’ll double check tomorrow.
The sixt lot was full of haval‘s, smc’s, mg’s, I guess because they are cheap.

Even though I get a discount for sixt through my nrma membership, I’ll check around more next time. Yes, I know I’m biased……..
