The view from my "office"

I was thinking my neighbours were building a new housing estate. I now know it's actually a Seventh Day Adventist youth camp, on for the next week or thereabouts. So now I have a tent city over my back fence with an estimated 3000 kids from all over the PNG highlands. They even have F-Troop style towers, complete with massive loudspeakers! I think I'm in for some religious education and lots of gospel music over the next week! I hope they have a really enjoyable camp.

By the time I went to walk the dogs today the Canberra weather turned unpleasant, cold, windy and clouds rolling in.

We drove up Mount Stromlo to the Observatory. Here, where now the Outreach Telescopes stand, once stood the building housing Electronics Engineering and the Mechanical Workshop, all destroyed in the January 2003 bushfires. From 1983 to 2001 my office was on this corner of the building, just behind the dogs. The view from my office was amazing, but I had to stand up to see it, because the windows were rather high up.

Although I had an office on the other side of the mountain at the time of the fire, in a building that escaped damage, a lot of my stuff was still in the old building and was lost. That included old diaries and as a result I have no details of roughly 100 to 150 trips I made to Siding Spring Observatory near Coonabarabran. Most were direct to COJ with Lloyd Air, a Canberra charter company, others with Hazelton Airlines via Cudal (CUG) to Dubbo and some via Sydney on the SYD-COJ F100 service, which has long ceased. All this is missing from my otherwise quite accurate lifetime flight map.

Ah, the memories...

You need to add a curly coated retriever to your gundog collection :D:p;):)

Heaven forbid! Do you know how much it costs to kennel dogs when we go away?

Actually, at the moment only Tasha (the golden retriever) is our dog. Elwood, the Hungarian vizsla, is our daughter's. There was a time when we had three dogs: a golden, a vizsla and a pharaoh hound.
