The view from my "office"

Batty Langley’s Spitalfields. Very much enjoying staying in this part of London.

Had a curry just around the corner in Brick Lane last week!

The Elizabeth line (I assume factored in to location choice?) has opened up new London areas to stay that are easy access from LHR but also good for seeing the sites / food and nightlife etc.

OT but yes, apart from the obvious new stops on the Elizabeth line and places within walking distance, there’s also new options one or two stops on the Tube from those that weren’t practical from the HEX / Heathrow Connect and Piccadilly Line.

A general comment on photography. I usually have a small Leica sitting in a pouch on my hip when I fly. Nobody ever counts it against weight and it has a little bit of zoom and I can fiddle with the settings if I'm trying for some effect.

More and more I just reach for my iPhone because phone cameras are amazing nowadays. They might only have tiny lenses but they have more computing power than any camera and they do an enormous amount through software.

A common problem with phone cameras is that the phones sit in pockets, get used for playing games, texting or even - gasp - making phone calls and invariably the lenses get covered in fingerprints and dust. This shows up in any photos taken as a haze. There are software methods for "dehazing" but they aren't perfect.

Best is to give the phone camera a wipe with a soft cloth before taking a shot. Just sayin'.

Hi @SYD was going to stay at the Waldorf again given we are Diamond members. But my wife wanted to stay somewhere different this time, somewhere away from the tourist centre.
The Elizabeth line wasn't an input factor, but it certainly made it very easy to get here from Heathrow.
I am missing the lounge and wonderful breakfasts of the Waldorf and would book there again for next time.

If you haven’t already wander up to Clerkenwell. Some nice restaurants and cafes etc Well worth the visit.

I’m paying 161€ ($262) for six hours in the the larger Premium Queen. A previous booking was 160€ for the 13 sq m Queen room, then 15€ an hour if extended. It is what it is. Good thing I booked, even though just two days ago. There are no rooms left. Two different people who walked in while I was checking in were turned away. They must have good housekeeping staff here 24/7.

The bed is firm but really comfy. It is adjustable, too! Good quality pillows. Big bottles of toiletries wall mounted, including body lotion. A fridge but no kettle or tea. Of particular usefulness, plenty of USB ports as well power outlets including a multi-use adapter one. Actually all thos at the desk and again above a ledge under the television.

Thanks @Port Power . I have used one of the 8 -10 free basic rest rooms in the J Lounge at IST which is hit and miss as to availability and not totally quiet. I don't know if they are still offered, so handy to have a back-up plan if I am ever that way again.

Yes, they are still here. Plus some public ones, I think. The staff member was asked by a customer. But probably full too.
