The Doubletree Kuala Lumpur is neatly tucked away in the Intermark building located just stone throw away from the city centre which is roughly a 12 minute walk from the twin Petronas towers. There is also the Ampang Park MTR station which is easily accessible by skybridge.

I used my Hilton points to redeem three nights at the Doubletree as it was really cheap at 6,000 points per night which was a steal. The hotel is located on top of a shopping precinct with a convenient grocery store in the basement level which was great for snacks and water throughout our stay.

My taxi arrived and I wasn't approached by any of the porters which seemed a bit strange as other hotels porters would be all over my luggage and assist with directing me inside for checkin. I unloaded my luggage and made my way inside and up the escalators towards the busy checkin desk where I saw all counters were occupied as the staff were checking in and checking out passengers as well as handle the Etihad crew.

I waited in line for a few minutes and when I approached the counter and handed the check in agent my Diamond card she immediately went to the back and grabbed a warm cookie and escorted me upstairs towards the lounge for checkin. The clerk who assisted with my checkin tried to upgrade me to a suite but due to no availability he apologised countlessly which was fine as he assigned me a King Executive room on the 32nd floor.

Clean, red and a very spacious room.

The Doubletree's room layout is spacious and laid out. It follows the new trend of bathroom's with large open mirrors which was easily converted into private by automatic shades which derailed a few times over the course of my stay. There wasn't a bathtub but the shower stall made up for it as it was large enough to move around without having a sense of claustrophobia.

The executive lounge has a nice variety of food and alcohol on offer from 1800 - 2000 which included satay, deep fried items, cold cuts and a variety of desserts which was more than substantial for a evening meal. The lounge was never crowded in any of my visits besides the early morning rush of breakfast. Another unique feature of the lounge was it had a smoking balcony with the most perfect view of the Petronas towers.

Another great feature of the hotel was the outside pool which was adjacent to the gym. The only drawbacks of the pool was that it had buildings surrounding it so there wasn't a lot of sun which keeps the area on the colder side rather than warm. Another other thing that I noticed was that the function centre was also located on the same floor and there was a event taking place on one side of the pool that was blocked off to guests so if you like being watched wile swimming than look no further than the Doubletree Kuala Lumpur.

The Doubletree Kuala Lumpur has been a great hotel to relax and rest at over a few days, the ambiance and atmosphere of the hotel is fresh and vibrant which I would recommend for a cheap stay not too far from the the city centre.

Nice review Dinh of a great hotel. The red is new - not present during my stays over the last few years.

Should also note that as well as the supermarket (which has a great wine selection) there is a food court, some upmarket restaurant/ bars, a hidden lounge bar and a nightclub.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

The red is very new - not present in late Dec 2014.

For the price I paid (10,000 points), I was happy. Staff weren't the best though - weren't good at providing directions or information.
