Thought I would share my fantastic experiences with Velocity since being status matched last year. I don't travel extensively like some on this board, maybe two return international, three transtasman and five return domestic each year. I was matched to Gold as I have EK Gold.

I've only had one flight on Virgin. SYD-MEL-SYD. It was perfectly fine. Nothing amazing, but acceptable. Crew friendly and plane in reasonable condition.

When staying at the Hilton Surfers recently upgraded to an Executive Room with lounge access for a three night stay. Hotel was lovely, albeit some teething issues. Lounge was wonderful with nice food and reasonable selection of drink.

I now have a flyer card and look forward to receiving the 50,000 points and 100 credit in due course. I've used one of the 2 for 1 flights at 1700 on a Friday night from SYD-MEL,saving $200. Im looking forward to the savings using the other three.

Im extremely happy with the velocity program. For my two upcoming trips to MEL I will travel 75% with Virgin.

Unfortunately it is unlikely I will requalify for Gold, as I don't plan on shifting my international travel from Emirates, but will if the goods continue I'll continue looking at Virgin as my preferred domestic carrier.

I have QC Life too, but would rather throw this away and spend my hard earned dollars with a company which values their customers, not leaves them stranded all over the world without notice

Just from readings around the boards and from friends feedback I think that the status upgrade/match offer was a very sound marketing strategy(as well as the bonus of timing with all the Qantas dramas). It seems to have converted many to Virgin and Velocity. I've got to admit that I've been a member for a while now and have always used Virgin when I can for national and International flights and have always found them very good.

they won me too with the recent status match program, most timely as you say for them, I hope they picked up some more regular travellers, flying with them has been a breath of fresh air. And I got an upgrade on my second status match gold flight with them, never had one in 15+ years at various levels with Q, so have let QFF slip to silver this year and will concentrate on retaining Velocity Gold since I have Q Club as well. Happy staff too, always smiling, Mr Richard must slip them happy pills lol.

That's SIR Richard tthank you ;)

BNE-SYD on 25th December, ~7am departure.
Was put in row 3 automatically (VA Plat) with +1 guest (my brother).
The leg room in row 3 is amazing, like Y+ and the seats are very comfortable.

During the flight, got address by surname + when l debarked. WOW. I was blown away as l've never had this happen to me in QF Y.
Lounge in BNE is great!

Would l recommend VA to friends, YES.

Not saying l've had a bad experience in QF recently, but l think that the standards in both QF and VA for customers has gone up a notch, win-win. YMMV.

Competition is great for the customer and had been missing for far too long domestically.

I also got a Velocity status match and am very happy with my experiences to date including the new ATRs down to Canberra and Premium Entry at SYD.

On my Qantas flights I've also noticed the crew have upped their customer service game too.

As you say, win-win.

Luckily you can do that… Virgin Australia is offering Lifetime Lounge memberships for just $9750. A bargain at that price.

I'd be interested to know if anyone has gone for it. With no international lounge access (with the exception of ANZ), I find it hard to see the value in forking out a $10k lump sum. And I've still got 60+ years of life to go (hopefully!) lol
