Cheaper to buy US miles at 100% bonus then redeem for Thai J & F flights;)

Well the rates aren't that bad, so long as you're not in Australia :p

Cool that you can upgrade from Economy to First too.

Wouldn't it be great if every airline did this and was open about the cost?

If all airlines had on departure upgrade charts/prices then would anyone actually book a higher class airfare?

A lot of the tickets you refer to are probably booked through TA's by company's and individuals. I couldn't imagine any TA telling a customer to book a lower class fare and then try for an on departure upgrade if they didn't have to.

The on departure upgrade is not guaranteed and there are other airlines that do it. I know VAustralia was doing it and I'm sure I have read that Emirates was sending letters out to people asking them if they wanted to pay for an upgrade.

Personally I cannot understand why an airline would allow its most valuable seats to fly unfilled if they have the chance to fill them at a reasonable price.

Has anyone had recent experience with the on departure upgrades?

Has price fluctuated? General experience on availabilities please.

Looking at BNE-BKK-BNE.

I booked business class back from coughet to Perth the other week, We found the price not only reasonable but worthwhile!!

You also need to ensure that the economy ticket you book is upgradeable.

It is also worth checking expert flyer for the next few days to see if there are still J seats available (probably would be). If they have an empty seat they will fill it for the upgrade price.

I read on flyertalk that they were upgrading award tix as well. On this trip we are actually travelling on 1 x *A redemption using KF miles and 1 paid tix. I won' set my heart on it but if it comes off then it will be a bonus.

I've done this twice now, no problems mel-bkk-mel. First time 34 business seats only 6 filled, second time 7 seats filled, can;t go wrong.:D
