Foreigner thanks for posting this. I have points parked in Westpac Altitude and Amex and looking at flying from BNE to BKK around 7 October and returning around 17 October so the dates suit. Would like 2 return J bookings and there is availability with MH via KUL. The points needed with MH is 68,000 each which I thought is not bad.

Am I correct in reading the link in your post that the return points in J from BNE to BKK would be only 49,000?. The link does say " The Award Seat Sale is for roundtrip point to point travel that must be completed by 31 October 2013" If so that is a bargain.

Before I join Royal Orchid Plus and transfer the points is any one able to advise the likelihood of 2 award J bookings being available for around my dates in October?. No problems with availability on MH and limted availability on SQ.

From the link it seems that it is open to members in Thailand with a Bangkok number to call. Will the offer extend to us here in Australia?

Only 49,000 Amex MR points SYD-BKK in business class.

Travel must be completed by 31 October 2013 is the killer. :(

49,000 for return in J is good value, IMO. The direct flights, 2x daily, is better still.

I would have said fantastic value. And since I am already going there anyway even better.

Shame I already have return flight locked in to return end of September so will look to see what it could cost to change that flight.

A380 before 31 Oct would be icing on the cake!

Have booked a BKK-MEL return for 49,000 in J. Great points value and ROP has this nearly at least once a year but TGs surcharges are worse than Qantas these days, $400 alone in YQ plus the $140 odd of actual taxes, pretty ridiculous!

Thats getting close in $$$ to a star alliance miles purchase cost.

Not sure I quite get this? A return on that route using Lifemiles is now at $1600 (was $1400 till recent devaluation) all up cost buying the miles and paying the appropriate fees (but no YQ on Lifemiles yet), so quite a bit different still!

Factor in the transfer of 49000 miles and the delta is not much, especially of you have purchased and banked miles from a few months ago.

There no chance of transferring points with thai to other members is there?...theres about 5 of us in the family with about 30k points each
jc

Hmm, the 49,000 miles are 'free' though as they have been earned going about everyday spending/flying. As opposed to the full cash cost of $1600 using Lifemiles, so from a dollars out of the pocket point of view those 49,000 miles are worth about $1000, or 2 cents per mile, for nothing.

No ROP is a pretty restrictive FF program really. Main benefits are the GUP and 50% off award as a Gold member and ability to add nominees for free as well as these recent once yearly 50% off deals and also generally great availability but otherwise not very good with expiry of miles, high fuel surcharges, no family transfers, etc.

I would just transfer, say from Amex, to ROP just for purpose of redeeming flights...rather than accumulate miles which may not be used.
