Just looking at potentially doing CBR-SYD-HGK-SYD-CBR later this year. I can book the entire trip in Y for $1060, or I can book the outbound flights in J for $271 + 60K points, and then return for ~$570 (HKD$4600). The only problem is that QF insist on me presenting my credit card to a HKG office prior to them accepting it.

Simply booking the one way component in AU is not an option as it will come to at best $1,300 (so more expensive than the return ticket).

On the QF website, it mentions that the credit card must be shown to QF prior to travelling. (Although the credit card holder need not be travelling).

Has anyone done this sort of booking before (I'm expecting yes), and if so was there any problems? I would not be able to show QF HKG the credit card until I actually arrived in HKG (not a problem because the outbound flights are booked via QF AU)

The other thing is it would be on an AU card, with an AU mailing address...

Just looking at my options...

I was looking at this a few days ago and the wording now includes showing the CC at checkin as an option. That being the case I don't see this as being a problem any more.

Important InformationThe Credit Card holder must verify the card used for this online booking at check-in or at the Hong Kong Qantas Office prior to departure. The cardholder does not need to be travelling.

Have you tried booking the fare on Zuji or Expedia? That is another way around the problem if the fare is similar.

They usually ask at check-in at HKG, I've never gone to the office beforehand (I've always been either travelling or went to check in with the OH).

That's fine. They don't mind where the card is from - they just want to sight it. Have had to do this in other ports before, but never HKG. But it's never been a problem. You can book with confidence :D

I have booked this before.
No problems and no nonsense. Just have the card ready at HKG check-in in case they ask.
Someone did something ex BKK I recall on this forum - have a search to see what they did.
