Hi Guys, I noticed the prices for Sydney to Bangkok, flying either Qantas or Emirates, have dropped on expedia.com.br yesterday from about $700 to $560-80ish.

Although, the Emirates plane appears to be the 777-300ER which has the 3-4-3 configuration. I've never been on it. Has anyone flown on this economy? Im thinking of buying a return but not sure whether to go for Emirates place or the Qantas A330-300 which is a little less cramped at 2-4-2.

Any words of wisdom?

If you asked me at the end of October I'd be able to answer as I am doing the trip myself (.br deal as well).

I am on the Emirates 777 on the way over and am hoping its not too cramped. Advice I saw suggests most window seats have restricted leg room due to the entertainment unit boxes but the seats right at the back where the fuselage narrows are apparently quite roomy. This is where the config changes to 2-4-2 (rows 46, 47 & 48) but it does put you right at the tail of the plane and the entertainment boxes are probably still there.

I'd also like to hear from anyone who has flown these birds to confirm what I have stated above.

I often take the 777 to BNE ex SIN, and I have to wonder why people feel its cramped, the IFE leaves the A330 for dead, I found the seat had good room (and I am not small) and the meals are also good. I would take it over an A330 from QF anyday, until their updates are done.

Is there a reason this needed a new thread. The less said about br the better in my view.

Coming back overnight (which is a sleep flight) I would be on QF anyday - it also lands earlier in SYD

Not too keen on the QF A330 so may try the Emirates 777.

By the way this deal is good for the sale fares but looking at flights around Christmas the QF fares are cheaper.

Yeah i can find plenty of info on the 777-300ER and understand its narrow and quite jam packed, but im not a great flyer anyway and try to just stay seated as long as possible.... so the better food and IFE of Emirates is an attractive prospect. But i cant find a whole lot of info about the Qantas A330-300 to see if the so called better seating is actually worth it. Seatguru says they both have seat widths of 17" anyway..

Also wondering if there is a chance one might be less full a flight than the other, but im guessing to bangkok they are probably all full.

The EK bird has same width seats and 1" more pitch!

Try:

There is pitch and there is width.

It all varies across the industry and where some say they have had better width and better pitch that has not been the case.

Just saying....

Think I might book the Emirates tickets tomorrow. Spent ages googling and cannot find a compelling reason to take the Qantas over it..

Having done both multiple times this year, I think your making the right decision.

Flights booked.... it was stuck on the payment page using chrome with auto-translate saying something was wrong with my info but it was all fine (hope doesn't hit my cc 6 times).... so went back using firefox and did it all in purtugese or whatever language it is and got it through... phew..
