Ok, procrastinating over the Shangri la or Intercontinental.

Premium Grand Harbour Horizon Club, possibly just Grand Harbour if Premium not available
or
Intercontinental Eastern Harbour Club

Will maximise the use of the club/horizon for the views and want that wow wake up of a Sydney sunrise?

Any experiences/thoughts?

Cheers in advance

All good view locations. I haven't stayed at them all but for me it would come down to the $$$ and which one I was chasing for some mattress nights...

Cheers. Not chasing nights or points, or obligated to use a chain. Similar to you it comes down to $$$, and the cheaper of the best, and a bargain where possible. No codes/coupons/offers kills me, but $$$ not much of an issue this stay as its a special occasion....just leaving it late to book, having watched prices for the last 2 weeks hover about the same....tomorrow arvo is arrival :).

Have stayed at IC several times. Lounge is good with a lovely view but a few things might count against it. They have been doing up the lifts one at a time and they are woefully slow. Rooms are lovely but the bathrooms have not been updated and IMO are showing their age. Haven't stayed at Shangri-La so can't comment on it.

Tks for comments....YouTube video reviews sealed it in the end....Ended up going for Horizon Club Grand Harbour View Room
Will update this post with how good it was.

Weather is expected to be fine so hoping for a clear night for the harbour/opera view and a good sunrise.......should catch it from the room even...I hope...otherwise the club lounge.

If anybody is ever in a position to choose between these 2 hotels, I can safely say you will not be disappointed with the Shangri-La Hotel, Sydney.

Absolutely perfect service at all levels, Horizon club lounge is as good as anywhere, with unsurpassed views from any hotel I have stayed at.
Canapes/drinks were fantastic, what you would normally expect from a lounge like this..the views just top it all off.

We ended up in a Grand Harbour suite (a very very lucky upgrade!) with 270 degree views to the west south west from the bathroom, north west to east from the bedroom and same from the lounge. Stunning views.
Massive room! Not quite as big as a writers suite at the E&O Penang, but that was just plain ridiculous!

The views from any of the Harbour rooms would be perfect, we just got lucky with the upgrade to make it so much better...sunset and sunrise photos!
