I've also flown MS domestically, and in and out of CAI internationally several times (not on MS). Honestly can't recall a problem - other than crowding in the terminal (not alone there).

Domestic meal was inedible, but service and flight was fine.

I asked my TA to ticket me home out of CAI on QR earlier this year but it was expensive! That was a surprise. Plus CAI-DOH no longer 'First' when you book business.

I've done lots of touring of Cairo on my own, as well as tours (that was an Intrepid Nile tour). Ubers work really well and are really cheap!

I had been working in Wales for a few months and took a cheap holiday in Tunisia.
I didn't use the return flight to the UK, flying on to Cairo with Tunis AIr instead.
I had planned to take the sleeper train to Karnak to see the temple at Luxor and the Valley of the Kings.
However the level of sexual harassment I was subject to in Cairo dissuaded me from that idea very quickly.
So flew there and back with Egyptair.
It was a horrific experience.
The aircraft was leased from Saudi Air, still in their livery, and was falling apart.
There was exposed wiring visible in my armrest, and some oxygen masks hanging from the ceiling.
It was the one and only time I have been afraid of flying.
I trust things have improved.

I think you got unlucky!

In 2002 we flew from Cairo to Luxor on Egyptair, newish 737, even served breakfast to business class! We took the flight via Hurghada so we could get two flights for the price of one!! (Actually so we could see more of the country by air, and it was spectacular… the flights were short so at low altitude, crossed the Nile twice, and over the vast desert plus the sea around Hurghada).

We came back via the sleeper train, which was more modern than I thought it was going to be. Which was both good, and a shame at the same time. Instead of wood-panelled carriages with a gently swaying oil lamp as I imagined it was a more recent ex French sleeper car!

What happened? Were you carrying something expensive/of interest?

No, at the initial security when you first enter the terminal my wife and I split to go through the mal/female lines and the security bloke in my line asks if would pay some money to ensure that both of us get to the front of the queue. The female line had about 10-15 in it but our lines were jam packed. I declined the offer and then we are both at the front after about a 10 minute wait. Mrs Jase gets through first and then the security bloke catches me again and says “last chance” and held out his hand. Again I said no and he goes “ok this line now closed, cigarette break, back in 15 minutes. So Mrs Jase is the other side of security and I’m stuck there or had to join another queue which would take about 20 minutes I estimated by then. She was panicking a bit but I’m pretty stubborn and just waited until he the line opened again. Opened up maybe 5 minutes later
