Property: Parmelia Hilton Perth
Date: 15-16 JUN 2013
Booked: Queen Hilton
Received: Queens Hilton Deluxe Plus (No exec, mid floor, away from lift)

Fast and efficient check-in and check-out, nice upgrade and very large room (my twitter friends such as Princess Fiona and kristyt will recall my description of how large the room was).

Adelphi Steakhouse has now been closed (poss. for renovations, not sure) and Globe Wine Bar/Restaurant has now been renamed as the Adelphi Grill.

Firstly, I have to give full praise to Gearold - the property's Director of Operations, for going above and beyond to recover this unfortunate situation.

Downside of experience was my absent-mindedness leaving a jacket in the room.

However, this left jacket has actually helped the hotel identify that a member of their contract housekeeping team has been stealing. They're investigating, because they themselves know it was there. Someone checked the mini-bar just after I checked out, and reported that the jacket was still in the room and was trying to see if I was still on property (all in their logs).

Between that contact and Housekeeping going to up to the room to secure the jacket, someone believed to be a member of their housekeeping team is suspected of stealing it.

They've even gone to the extent of checking the front of house CCTV, and were able to confirm the jacket I was wearing on arrival was indeed the one which was seen in the room but is currently AWOL due to the errant contract housekeeper.

I only became aware of all this from Gearold this morning, when I popped down there to hopefully collect the jacket. I can see that he is going out of his way to get to the bottom of this, and has already offered to make good on the stolen property.

So kudos to the Parmelia, and Gearold. Always had good experiences - and when things go wrong they make the effort to do right by the customer.

Wow. I stayed at the Parmelia on 14-16th June. MrsF had a lot of expensive clothing in her bag and told me yesterday that she thought a Louis Vuittion scarf is missing. We were on the 7th floor in a King deluxe suite. We had bags spread out all over the place on Saturday night/Sunday morning. Might need to check with her to see if she has found it. A call to management may be in order....

Hope you find it.. It would be somewhat of a concern otherwise.
Slight O/T: I have several items of value missing from my checked baggage on various domestic & international flights.
Without sufficient evidence, though I always suspect baggage handlers & have become pedantic about locking my checked bags.
As for valuables whilst staying in hotels, I always use the safe.

Re: How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

We use the safe for things like passports, documents, wallets & laptops but I was sorta hoping that the staff would be honest enough not to pinch stuff like clothes from a bag in the room. I know it's naive but I can't lock everything up all the time or stay in the room 24/7.

Re: How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

I had a nice pair of shorts go missing at HSW, but to be fair, I suspected they may have been accidentally bundled up with towels and robes etc that were left (and cleaned) off the bathroom floor. Easily done and far nicer thought than the cleaning staff pinching them. It'll teach me to pick up after myself (now where have I heard that before )?

Re: How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

This is a terrible thread. Haven't Mods heard about discussing religion and politics ? Bad plan.

I lost a $100 USD note at the Hilton Rotterdam lately. Well, I say that... but jury's out on where it got lost and how! It was tucked away in my passport wallet with about 90 CHF also, which were still there, but the USD was not........ I will forever remained baffled at that one! Perhaps it got knocked out somehow, but given how tucked in it was, it doesn't make sense :(

LOL: I thought I'd clicked on the "Tipping the check in clerk for an upgrade in Las Vegas" thread by accident when I read your post!

(N.B. yes there is one here on AFF; yes it talks about slipping $100 in your passport as a sweeteners to get an room upgrade...)

Haha! Nope, I had it in there as emergency backup funds if I ever get stuck for money. Don't do it anymore..... learnt the hard way!

Yeah that one is a puzzle. Why take a USD note and leave CHF? Both would be as easy as each other to dispose of in the EU. I haven't ever handled a $USD100 note... Am always worried it will be a fake or no one will accept it.
But like my laptop charger going missing in a Swiss hotel... There are always strange things that happen.

Strange.. Perhaps it is sought after commodity in the eastern bloc..
My Bintang shirt & leopard skin togs always remain idle where I had strategically placed them in the room though.. :D

Re: How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

I have to say I am pretty blasé when it comes to hotel rooms. I use the safe for passports and excess cash when I can be bothered, but generally my expensive electronics and second wallet, cards and cash are left out. Theft must be generally rare, and I would like to think the hotel staff are trustworthy.

That said, I can imagine Perth as a place where it would be more common. Some places you think their job would be worth more than the theft, but the economy is a bit different in Perth (until recently it seems).

After 5 nights in 4 separate hotels around LA, I've come to the conclusion that Universal Hollywood is great staff wise, better than LAX Hilton, Hilton Anaheim and Doubletree Anaheim. LAX was the worse, the others were average.

It seemed difficult to get an upgrade (1/5 luck) and water in the room (1/5 luck).

Also, slightly off-putting, the bellmen seemed (at 2 hotels) to use their own taxi 'mates' to get some sort of commission from the drivers!

found similar in New York. Most upmarket Hotel bellmen seem to have their 'mates'. not alot of downside..have always been well looked after by these guys and don't seem to have been ripped off at any stage

I manage a restaurant. At least once a week we will have people saying thing like "I left my Iphone yesterday on the table, I'm sure it was there, ask your staff etc..." and we are often made to feel as if we took it. Let me tell you, 99% of the time someone else (the organiser) from the same table (usually large groups) took it for them because they are not sure who's it is or they end up finding it in some weird places (toilets etc...). `Not our fault you were too drunk last night to remember what you have done!

Everyone, next time, before you start accusing wait staff or cleaners, make sure you actually know exactly what you have done of your personal stuff. As a matter of fact wait staff usually will run behind you out of the door to return your belongings. I have sometimes even called the surveillance to track you down in order to return belongings. If you forget your credit card and you didn't have a booking with us, we will call your bank to give you a call. This is what the hospitality sector is all about, providing great customer service. No we don't care about your Iphone 5 or your handbag we can afford it, no need to steal!

Oh and just so you know, be rude to me or my staff and you wont get any help. Be nice and friendly and I will use all the tools I have to help you find what you are looking for.

Same. Never even used a hotel room safe. My passport and money is always with me, and my laptop etc just gets left where ever I feel like and I've been lucky (touch wood) that I haven't had any problems.

Last hotel I stayed in must have thought I was a bit messy as they hung my clothes up (I'd left them draped over a chair) and lined up all my shoes

As to the rest of the story, I have to confess I put a lot of trust in hotels to not steal anything of mine. I hardly ever use the safe, though that behaviour may have to change now.

That said, I do tend not to spread everything out (e.g. keep most things in my luggage if possible). Mainly because that's a classic way to forget things in the room (i.e. forget how many places you have put things, and thus forget to check those when you leave the room).

:D :D :p Ha, Ha.....nice one.......nice one Centurian! :)

I have had issues with my hotel room going missing. Strangely it only tends to occur really late at night/early in the morning. I think someone at the bar is to blame :D
