So I recently hit well over 1,000 credits, 1,100 to be exact. However when my account eventually updated to show platinum those 100 credits over 1,000 disappeared, showing that I still need the full 800 additional credits to requalify. This cant be right surely? Shouldn't it show I have earned 100 credits with 700 required for requal?

There's a discussion to similar on this thread from 2013

http://www.australianfrequentflyer....us-credits-disappearing-into-black-54308.html

My understanding is that:

If the extra 100 credits are part of the same flight that passed 1000 is that you will be unlikely to get them

If they are from extra flights after you would have passed 1000 if the prior ones had posted in time, you will probably get them

If the extra 100 were needed to get to 8 Eligible Sectors you probably won't

Hmmmm interesting, thanks for the heads up. Hopefully I don't have to get into an argument with them and they just give me what is mine-I don't care when their review date is scheduled, if I've earned the credits they should count.

first time I hit WP, I was on 950sc, and were traveling BNE-PER with family (wife and 3 kids family pooling to me) so earned 100sc. The additional 50sc were "wasted"

Yes, this has been discussed a fair bit.
Everyone experiences the same thing, if the SCs over 1000 come from a single transaction, then you 'lose' them, i.e. they don't count for requal, they only count towards partner gold (1500sc)

It is confusing and a bit wrong, but after I experienced it as a Gold I made sure to reach 1005 SC so I only wasted 5.

The process is that your account is reviewed daily. If your account meets the requirements to go to the next level, then the next day you are elevated to that level. Your review date is one year later.

Since your review date looks at the SC earned over the last 12 months, any SC that posted before you earned your status don't count.

So if you are at 995 and fly a 120 SC flight to become platinum, you kind of waste 115 SC.

and only then when re-qualifying for Platinum. Not if it's the first time.

This is not acceptable. So if on Friday I reach 1000 credits and then fly to LA Business class on Saturday I will miss out on those status credits and any other status earn until the computer pulls its finger out and recognises me as platinum? What a joke that there is even a delay-it should all be automated instantly. Unless there is a physical person involved in some sort of validation process there is absolutely no excuse for delays.

It depends on when your LA business class flight posts. Probably you would be fine if your SC posted above 1000 on Friday. It's only if the qualifying SC post late, say they posted on the same day that the LA flight posted, that you really get screwed.

That happened to me with qualifying for Gold. A flight SIN to BKK should have put me over but it posted late (10 days after flying) and happened to post the same day as a SIN-CDG. That SIN-CDG would not have counted for requalification for gold! Luckily I was on my way to platinum but lesson learned.

A more fair way would be to back date status and include those SC but then you wouldn't get a full 12 months pf status necessarily.

Judicious use of family pooling can avoid wastage but does require a family and may not offer much extra benefit

I am in a slightly different spot but wanting to ensure I don't waste any status credits. My wife's requal date for gold is in June. She will reach the 400 SC required in mid Jan, but won't earn enough to make platinum so we aren't chasing it.
Is there ANY benefit to her earning SC between requalifying in Jan and her review date in June, or should they go to me as I MAY make Silver (yippee!) I am assuming that despite requalifying in Jan her review date stays in June so she will have at least 18 more months of gold after requalifying. And that therefore there is no point in her earning more SC as she will need another 400 after her review date in June to requal again. Or am I wrong and do the points earned between Jan and June count towards the next lot of 400?

Thanks in advance for any advice

Your first assumption is correct and MrsM should pool if she wont make Platinum

Could you not withhold your FF number in the Saturday booking and make a retro claim when the computers have caught up?
