Hi everyone,
Long time browser here, but I need some help trying to retain SG as I plan a bit of round the world travelling mid year... but my SG expires at the end of March.
I'm currently needing 295 SCs to retain gold but need a cost effective way to do runs from Brisbane. I have around 155,000 FF points... so points and pay can chop down costs to an extent. What would be the best way to do my SC run?

My current plan is to fly return Sydney on a red edeal then return from Melbourne flying business.

Thanks :)

I'd be looking at doing JASA's rather than points+pay (terrible value!).

As for the best JASA run, i'm not sure. 295 is a long way short of SG though. Are you going to be doing the travel post re-qualification to justify it? It'll burn up a lot of points and dollars keeping that SG ;)

What is a JASA?

As for travelling post requal. I think I would be travelling enough to requalify SG again just on business trips and some leisure travel for next year.

Cheers.

What is a JASA?

A business class (J) any seat award (ASA). These use points only (or points + cash) and earn full points and status credits. There are some good value ones around (usually involving SYD-CBR-HBA hops) that can earn 120 SCs for 20-30K points. Do some searches of the forum for more info.

If you dont mind doing a bit of flying its not going to cost to much, here is a JASA run over two weekends (did not have the time to fit it into two days but it would be possible one weekend in March which earns the following:

BNE-ADL Disc Y 1512 miles 15 SC
ADL-TSV JASA 3014 miles 120 SC
TSV-DRW JASA 4354 miles 140 SC
DRW-TSV JASA 4354 miles 140 SC
TSV-BNE Disc Y 1038 miles 15 SC

Total Earned 14272 points 430 SC

Cost for trip 127K points or $96K + $370

Thats obviously going over the top, you might look at paying for the positioning flights to ADL and then from DRW going back only to BNE in Y, that will drop the points cost to 750000 with no cash and still earn 295 SC, and obviously a bit less in terms of the miles when you consider what you earn on the trip.

I'm no JASA expert but IIRC you should look at ADL-TSV and TSV-DRW.

For mid-Feb on a Saturday and Sunday, BNE-ADL-xBNE-TSV-BNE can be had for 72000 points and $219. That would earn 240 SC and 5950 points.

Thanks guys :)
Very useful info here. I might do the BNE-TVE return run twice to get 240 pts. I think 2 upcoming business trips to perth will cover the rest.
