Hi guys,

I just wondered if anyone has had a similar experience regarding a change of status abroad.

I am heading to Europe for a month, and on my return back to Sydney I will have changed status to Gold.

I have a five hour lay over before my next flight to Auckland, and wanted to access the Sydney lounge with my new status - is this possible, particularly if I board in France, and my status will not yet be Gold and my boarding passes could be printed with Silver status ?

Forgive me if I have this all wrong, but if you are going to Europe for a month then a month is plenty of time for the system to recognise your status and kick in any status credits I would have thought.Or are you relying on the Europe-SYD leg to kick you over to Gold?

I think from what I've worked out if travel agent purchased the non discount fares as requested, it should be when we arrive in AUH, however if it's a v promo fare, I think it would be SYD. I'll be gutted if she's not done it, as price difference was only $50.

Any thoughts ? I have go to to Shanghai in March, so will get to use the status upgrade at some point, but chasing Platinum with the amount of travel in next 12 months, want to maximise those lounge benefits.

I think the OP meant 'on my return flight I will tick over to Gold'

Most VA flights tend to take a few days to hit your account, and then you need to wait until overnight for your status to updated. If you turn gold on the flight to SYD, you won't be able to access the lounge there. It'll probably be 4-5 days at least before your status is reflected online.

You could always try and ask the Lounge angel and explain that with the flight you have just completed, you have tecnhically just jumped into gold but it just hasn't shown up yet. Your odds would be pretty reasonable I reckon.

Unfortunately it'll be the NZ lounge. No card, no access. The NZ lounge staff have no access to the DJ systems (OP is flying SYD-AKL).

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Clearly, my contribution to this thread has been as helpful as a camel ride in the snow.

Not at all, was just stating that the NZ people have no access to the DJ systems. The barcode on your BP is scanned at the door for a yes/no answer (or presentation of your FF card). They can't check to see your bookings or anything (they can't even do seat allocations for you). I tried this in SYD a few months back on a VA flight and was told this (sorry didn't mean to make it look like your contribution wasn't valuable; I should have stated 'in my experience'). DJ and QF are also very similar there. Many a person on here has asked the same question re QF and becoming WP or SG whilst arriving into LAX and wanting to know if they can use the T4 AA lounges prior to return to AU.

It's fine. You did nothing wrong. I was taking the piss out of myself. Your info is good. Mine was all over the shop.:p

Do consider, if your flights to and from Europe are booked as a single reservation, eg. as a return with the same Reservation number... then the points and status credits will not be processed until you have completed the return leg of your trip. I had exactly the same situation late last year.

Depends. Where you on the VA or EY codes? I've flown VA to the USA many times and the AU-LAX leg credits just fine when the LAX-AU leg is on the same booking. Depending on the length of your stay, it's possible both flights fell into the window of a sweep (ie, when EY sweep the info to VA, it all gets credited). If both your outbound and return flights fall in that window that will happen, however, if you leave and a sweep happens before your return, your outbound will credit first.
